Café Wilhelm — Restaurant in Berlin

We encountered some seriously rude hospitality staff in Berlin but the lady serving at Cafe Wilhelm took the Kekse.

I may never fathom why Berlin hospitality staff are so aggressively offended by the presence of tourists, unless it’s just me? The staff at Cafe Wilhelm certainly seemed to wish I had never set foot in the city if not openly saying so.

She threw cutlery at us with the kind of force I might expect to see in a daring circus act, before barking the total at us and tapping her nails on the counter impatiently while I got my payment card out.

The cafe has a sort of unfinished feel, with unframed canvasses of Berlin Wall graffiti hung at wonky angles on scuffed beige walls. The furniture is mismatched, but not in a good way, more a ‘cast off from five other restaurants’ chic.
