Strandbar Mitte — Restaurant in Berlin

Right opposite the Bode is an open park with the Strandbar offering beers and food and lounge chairs by the banks. At night, the area comes alive with music and dancing. Late one evening while I was exploring by the area, the lively atmosphere was really engaging and if wasn’t for the lack of time, I would have been drawn in. I think there’s a theatre right behind here as there were posters promoting Shakespeare plays. To date I have found Berlin people wonderful. Not this place. No toilet (it’s like 250m away in the nearby park and you have to pay a tip to some random guy on the door) Staff are FASTIDIOUS that all customers follow the “ze rules”. Ze rules are not written and one is only informed upon breach. Punishment involves a public dressing down to the entire table. Such fastidious did not extend to said staff who seemed to have a very arbitrary policy on pfand deposit...

We had a bad experience of really poor service at a Vietnamese restaurant not far from here, so stopped for a water and coke and to give our feet a rest. It was a lovely spot with big umbrellas for shade. Today was particularly hot so it was nice to get out of the sun for a while. The staff were so friendly too which gave us more reason to stay a little longer. Well done on creating a good, happy atmosphere in your space...
