Café am Engelbecken — Restaurant in Berlin

We visited Café am Engelbecken on a crisp, sunny morning, and it was pure serenity. The sky was clear, the sunlight was soft on our faces, and we chose to sit outside right by the lake despite the chilly air — and the café made it extra cozy by offering warm blankets for anyone who wanted to enjoy the view.

We ordered cappuccinos, and they were just perfect — rich, smooth, and served with a lovely touch of latte art. Sipping them while watching ducks glide peacefully across the water was such a calming way to start the day. The setting, with a backdrop of trees, reflections on the lake, and a quiet breeze, felt like a hidden escape right in the middle of Berlin.

Amazing location right next to the water. It's a nice place if you just want to have a drink, although the drinks are pretty pricey compared to other places in the city. Eating is definitely not adviced here. With a traditional german "look" and feeling, this place serves ONLY mediocre asian food and a few overpriced salads, as well as some breakfasts (which I didn't try). The quality of canned and frozen food is the least you would expect in such place. Weird decoration, mix of "biergarten", modern plasticky and at night red neons reminding of a road gas station, or worse, a road bar. Service was ok but not very motivated. With a bit of enthusiasm, new decoration and new menu (and new cook), the place...

The service at this place is an absolute joke. We ordered two random breakfast plates, and 1h hour later, our food was still not served.

After 40 minutes waiting time, we asked the waitress to double check if there was not a problem with our order. It didn't help. After 1h, I addressed the problem directly to the manager and the kitchen. And I warned that I wouldnt pay for more than half of the bill. All they offered me as a potential compensation for the trouble was a free coffee! So I just left the place, letting them with our finally ready two breakfast plates.
