Blumental — Restaurant in Berlin

I had an incredibly bizarre experience here.

I came on a slow Wednesday evening and was seated with a menu by Server 1. After unsuccessfully trying to make eye contact with the staff for about ten minutes, I approached Server 1 at the server station to inquire whether I was supposed to place my order there directly. She said no, asked where I was sitting, and then said she would be right over to take my order.

I was then promptly ignored by her for another ten minutes before finally being able to order a decaf latte and the Triumvirat starter, opting for the side of Quetschkartoffeln.

The food did come promptly, however they mistakenly gave me bread as a side instead of the potatoes. No worries, I let Server 1 know and she apologized and said she would get the potatoes to me right away.

I was surprised when she came back with a bowl of whole boiled baby potatoes, as the google search I did before ordering seemed to indicate that Quetschkartoffeln were crispy “smashed” potatoes. I mentally wrote it off as a misunderstanding on my part and enjoyed my potatoes and the cozy atmosphere.

Later, I requested a takeout box for the remainder of my food from Server 1. This was a mistake; I waited another five minutes to no avail before managing to flag down Server 2 for a box and the bill.

Apparently they did not have lids/the top halves for their takeout boxes, so he provided me two “bottom” box halves that he would tape shut for me to avoid spillage. Agreeable to this, I packed up my food into the box and paid the bill. Server 2 took the box to the front to tape it shut as he had mentioned.

Moments later Server 1 returned with the sealed box. I thanked her and left.

The ordeal was not yet over.

I slowly realized that the latte I received was not decaf and I had heart palpitations for the rest of the evening which was an inconvenience to say the least.

Later that night I went to eat my potatoes. I opened the box to find A COMPLETELY PRISTINE, EMPTY CONTAINER.

WAS I HALLUCINATING? WHERE DID MY FOOD GO? CAN I HAVE MY TIP BACK?

I am more confused than anything about this entire experience.

Nonetheless, if you want a space with nice vibes, have over an hour and a half to wait to order/pay for an appetizer, no heart problems, and don’t care about receiving all of the food you paid for, then you should check...

I celebrated my birthday here and it’s so sad that I had a quite disappointing experience. when I went here for the first time, it was nice which led me to book blumental for my birthday. The food was good, the place is pretty and has a lot of seatings. when I emailed them everything was perfect, they offered me to prepare the table with water and the mimosa pairings, I also specifically asked to have the seating area near the window (which they said on their email, it was their plan anyway to sit me there) and I also asked their permission to bring my own cake and they nicely allowed me. but on my birthday it was different, I admit I arrived 10 mins earlier so understandable that the table might not be ready but after more than 15 mins of the reservation time the table was still not ready so they put us in the temporary table that didn’t fit the 10 of us. after that finally the table was ready but it wasn’t the table that I requested, all the things that I asked to be prepared were also not prepared until I asked them again (they didn’t have any idea that I requested that) and one of the waiters was also saying “you have to ask us via email if you wanted to bring your own cake here” which I already asked via email and they already said I’m allowed to. It’s as if they don’t have any communications with the person who i emailed regarding my booking. and when we’re about to pay it took us almost 30 mins, 3 of my friends went back and forth to the waitresses to ask to pay but none of them came. and finally when one of them went to our table and ready to take care of our bill, she asked us whether we wanna pay together or split and when we answered split, she just said okay and went to other tables and took care of them first which I found very rude. usually I’m quite chill when it comes to paying, but this time we had an appointment after the lunch that’s why we’re in a hurry. because of this we were late for our appointment. this payment issue was also happened when i visited the first time, so I assume this is a long going issue.

I really hope they’ll improve their service and communication between them because besides those I really like the atmosphere and their food and...

The place has cool vibes but that’s it. The place advertises heavily as vegan friendly but tonight I had only one vegan option. The baking goods looked quiet dry and the croissant was not even vegan? Is that a joke? The waitress seemed new, and that’s okay but she had an attitude, definitely not friendly. Her English was quiet bad, and said she thinks it’s all vegan from the menu… she thinks? Wasn’t it her job to know? And later came back to say the cheeses were not vegan.

Menus were never brought to the table, I had to go find them and ask for them. Then we had to wait at least 20 min to get noticed… no the place was not packed but they are clearly understaffed too.

My vegan dish was tasty but very disappointing, I left hungry. Paid 25€ for an attitude, leaving hungry, an okay cocktail and getting charged for water (tap water is forbidden to ask she said).

The bar guy seemed more friendly and suggested we come back during the day where there are more vegan options. But well as a suggestion, don’t advertise it as a great place for vegans when u can’t do vegan dishes and have not figured out about vegan cheeses and vegan croissants. It’s Berlin Also sold out on dishes at 7 pm? It was only the beginning of the night…

I gotta add, the vegan menus seems to be made by non vegans who think vegans don’t eat. We both left hungry. I’m vegan 8 years and this place is definitely one of the worse „vegan friendly“ places I’ve visited.

We were also told the place was booked out so we had only one table to sit but we never saw other people sitting on the couch or n various tables around us….

Oh and we had to fix the table with a little paper so it does not wobble 🤣…

Almost forgot - The food was not fully warm. One of the dishes was cold. Seemed like the least of issues in this evening though…. We did not ask for this fixing because we were afraid of meeting with more attitude. We did have one rolling eyes as I asked for a spoon at some point, in my attempt of eating a bit more of that sauce… as I said, the food was...
