Two of us went on a Tuesday night before a concert. They were very accommodating to our relatively limited turnaround time, but didn't make us feel rushed or like we were being too demanding! Our waiter, Angelina, was extremely professional and knowledgeable, had excellent suggestions.
This place has been around for about 20 years or so. The interior has a rustic Italian feeling and the original frescos on the ceiling have been around for over 100 years, and were preserved during renovations during the COVID-19 shutdown. The menu changes daily based on what they have available, and they get their ingredients from mostly local and responsibly harvested / farmed sources.
We ordered two starters, finnochi stufati (fennel slow-cooked in tomato sauce) & beef carpaccio. Both came with some arugula/rocket, served cold. They were excellent complements, and the parmesan on the carpaccio was mild and added a delightful flavor to the mix. I don't drink alcohol, but my partner had a negroni to start, which he said was a very well-balanced classic preparation.
For our entrées, we chose the fettucine with seasonal mushrooms, and cavatelli with fish ragù (included whitefish & mussels). My partner asked for a recommendation for a red wine to go with his meal: he was given a medium-bodied nebbiolo, which he said was exactly the kind of wine he enjoys most. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The mushrooms were so good, almost sweet. I don't remember if they were cooked in butter, but the earthy flavor was delightful and grounding.
We were really full by the time we finished our meals, so we didn't order dessert (the options were panna cotta, crème brûlée, or a chocolate mousse with orange compote), but we will be returning tonight after dinner elsewhere for dessert.
Our bill, with added tip, came out to €105. Our waiter offered to call us a taxi to our concert, but we had already arranged our own travel. Still, the offer was thoughtful and shows just how present and considerate everyone was. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who wants a classic Italian dining experience with homemade, high-quality dishes in a...
Read moreI was hesitant to write a negative review, as I have previously eaten here and enjoyed the experience.
However, I had written privately to Goldene Hahn after the recent meal (prompted by their feedback form) and they never deigned to answer, so at least this way I can share my experience with others.
I decided to bring my partner here for her birthday on a Wednesday evening several weeks ago.
Unfortunately, it could hardly have been a worse experience and ruined what should have been a joyous occasion.
We were routinely ignored. We eventually got a staff member to take our order 30mins after we were ready (one staff member had promised to, but never returned). Bear in mind: it was not very busy as it midweek.
My meal was the Fettuccine with mixed mushrooms and I’m sorry to say that it was extremely disappointing. The pasta was very overdone, the sauce was watery and the mushrooms were mushy and tasteless. For a dish which costs €20 I certainly expected better. As most of the dishes of the evening contained mushroom, I was under the impression that they had access to a fresh source, but that did not seem to be the case.
My partner's meal (the seafood pasta) was marginally better.
Lastly, as we were not provided with any bread (standard custom, also at this restaurant), we asked for some during the meal. It was begrudgingly supplied, with the staff member who brought it literally slamming the pepper grinder on the table.
We felt generally unwelcome and decided against getting dessert as we were no longer comfortable...
Read moreI have been to the place several times and always enjoyed, but yesterday had a very bad experience. I won't address the quality of food but because it is usually very good. unfortunately, service was extremely rude with me and my friends. the three of us started feeling bad right after dinner, while we were still in the restaurant. It might or might not be due to food - but two of us ended vomiting and in general we were all having stomach issues. the staff noticed we were not feeling good but didn't ask if we needed help. After paying - on our way out - my friend mentioned it to the waitress, saying that MAYBE it could be due to food. She wasn't rude and I repeat, we had already payed 190€ bill. The waitress followed us outside the restaurant saying that we have no idea how digestion works because even if something was bad with the food we would only feel it after 4h. A simple google search can confirm otherwise.
Again, it's not about the food but about the really poor service - and in general rude and not...
