After all the soulless coffee chains took over most of the small cafés in the neighborhood, I finally stumbled across this hidden gem in a quiet street close to Südstern. The owner is incredibly nice, kind and knowledgeable and you can tell that the café is run with passion, heart and care. You feel welcomed from the moment you enter and being greeted with a smile has become so rare in Berlin nowadays, that it is a pleasant surprise when it does happen. Doppio does not only provide you with genuine smiles, but also with exceptionally good coffee. They have different beans from different roasteries which I find great. Extra big plus for brewing Populus coffee. They also have a really nice terrace where you can enjoy coffee in a nice, quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Read moreI've been there twice and was disappointed both times. First, I picked up a piece of cheesecake to go. It wasn't terrible, but decidedly average for the price. Stopped by again a few weeks later, decided to try their coffee this time. Service was bafflingly slow and my latte was basically just milk with cocoa powder on top. I like my coffee on the weak side, but that was just absurd. On top of that, there were no lids for the bigger cups. Perhaps they ran out, or they just don't have them at all. Unclear. What's 100% clear is I won't be visiting them...

The pastries and limited range of sandwiches are above average though not really a full meal. Excellent service for a helpful and friendly barista. One odd quirk is that the toilet seems to also offer a shower - presumably not intended...
