I am really excited every time I find some special family-restaurant! It's like you are visiting your old good friends!

@mamakalo - a cozy family place with German and French cuisine in Neukölln

The owners are a beautiful German-Polish couple, Marcus & Mago. Every day they are receiving guests with delicious food and a "home" atmosphere.

The name of the restaurant is an acronym incorporating the first syllables of the names of the owners.

Chief Marcus uses fresh local and seasonal products. So there are always some options of the season.

We were really lucky and tried next dishes:

● Gluten-free buckwheat crêpes with beetroot, radish, cheese and fresh salad.

● "Flammkuchen", very thin and crispy dough-alsatian pizza, with pumpkin, red onion, blue cheese and pomegranate. Highly recommended! ❤❤❤

● Traditional Spätzle pasta -the best I have ever tried- with cream, gorgonzola and mushrooms.

All dishes were fresh and of high quality, with a well balanced taste! The portions are really big!

Further they have some meat-dishes , french desserts, pastries and on the Weekend breakfast.At the moment the restaurant is open only for dinner, but in warmer Times of the year they also open for lunch.

I work in service so usually Im very understanding if things take a little longer. However the quality of the service was horrible. It wasnt busy at all and we got our menus after already being sat for 10 minutes, then ordered 2 beers and a vodka apple juice which took 30 mintues to arrive to our table (2 people of the floor and one behind the bar) this isnt acceptable on a not busy night. It also took an hour and fifteen mintues for our 3 "pizza's" to arrive in which one was burnt so badly it was inedible. This couldve been made better had the staff updated us on why things were taking longer or at least checked in with us. The cherry on top of this horrible experience was that when I went to the toilet I could see inside the kitchen, all the staff were on their phones when we knew that there were people still waiting for their food. I dont put the blame on the staff since service was trying their best but it was obvious that there is a serious lack in management and supervision. Die Restaurants in der Nähe waren zu voll und dieses Restaurant haben wir durch Zufall entdeck, da wir die anderen Restaurants für zu voll gehalten hatten, haben wir entschieden hier zu essen und ich wünschte, dass wir uns lieber dagegen entschieden hätten. Das waren die schlechtesten Galettes die ich je in meinem Leben gegessen habe. Ich habe es sehr schwer runtergewürgt und die Sauce war so geschmacklos, dass es wiederum eklig geschmeckt hat. Tut mir leid, dass so zu schreiben, aber verschönern kann ich es nicht. Die Angestellten waren auch sehr komisch. Zu keinem Zeitpunkt wurde kommuniziert oder sichtbar dargestellt, dass nur Bar Zahlung möglich ist. Nachdem Verzehr und der Bekanntgabe, fragten wir, ob wir Geld abheben gehen könnten und sie bejahten es. Nachdem die Person weggegangen ist, haben wir unser Geld zusammen gezählt und dachten, wir hätten den vollständigen Betrag. Die Person meinte, dass 0,40€ (40 Cent) fehlten und daraufhin mussten wir eine Bank finden. Noch nie, egal in welcher Service Branche, habe ich so etwas erlebt. Falls mir Cents oder Euros gefällt haben, haben die Menschen es durchgehen lassen und ich habe trotzdem immer Leute in meinem Familien- oder Freundeskreis um Geld gebeten und es zurück gezahlt oder am nächsten Tag das Geld trotzdem hingebracht und überreicht, (da ich sonst ein schlechtes Gewissen hätte). Das war für mich eine extrem unangenehme Situation.

Ich bin eine Person, die immer Trinkgeld gibt, selbst wenn es mir nicht schmeckt. Zum ersten Mal habe ich es nicht getan. Ich möchte es jetzt nicht verallgemeinern, aber Trinkgeld können sie annehmen, aber auf 0,40€ nicht verzichten?
