I wish we had never come to this shop. While visiting Berlin, we stopped in to have breakfast and coffee. We followed the rules and left our stroller outside and put our 12-month-old son in a backpack carrier. After ordering a lot of coffee and food, our son was a little grumpy and squawked a bit as he didn’t like being confined to the backpack. As I was trying to comfort the baby, we were suddenly asked to leave by a barista who said that the baby’s noises were breaking the concentration of the roasters across the shop. We were shocked as he wasn’t even crying just whining a little and it was a very large space with lots of background noise. We felt shunned and humiliated as we sat outside in the cold. My husband’s pourover was pretty good, but my cappuccino was so-so, and my sandwich was bland. In the end, none of what we ordered was good enough to justify the unkindness of the staff (not that it’s ever really justified). I thought coffee shops were supposed to be communal gathering places not solemn temples. And if they wanted to have total silence, perhaps they should have made that clear before we ordered an entire breakfast. Bottom line: If you don’t mind buying hit-or-miss coffee from unwelcoming stiffs, then go ahead and visit. If not, there are much better third-wave shops in Berlin where the coffee is excellent AND the people...
Read moreI used to come to the barn everyday. (Mostly to work but also to meet friends and just enjoy an afternoon) Specially Baby Barn, because of its clean and calm atmosphere! Unfortunately the Teamleader changed and since than it’s impossible for me to work there calmly on my laptop. The new stuff still seems nice but acts quite unprofessional. It’s often dirty and old cups don’t get cleaned up. The stuff plays some random “lounge” kind of music from their phone which is very disturbing when you try to work. The new team seems very distanced to the costumers …. A beautiful neighbourhood vibe is totally missing here. Really used to love this place because of the stuff who where able to remember names of neighbours and even their preferred coffee, but since even the quality of the coffee and food went bad I have no business coming here anymore. But I do can recommend the Italian cuisine Pinci right next to the barn! You can feel a family kind of vibe which I very much appreciate, it’s often full because everybody in the neighbourhood appreciates the warm and close relationship pinci keeps with their costumers unlike baby barn.
Sorry the barn, I can’t recommend you anymore. Since I don’t feel comfortable according to the service, the stuff and the Cleanliness...
Read moreThe most pretentious place I have ever been to. They refuse to speak German, which is fine for me since English is actually my native language, but still bizarre and out of place in a German city. I wanted a pour over with as dark a roast as possible, and he tried to explain they cannot use the dark roast for pour over as they are espresso beans and cannot be used for anything but espresso. That is absolutely ridiculous. Espresso bean does not mean it will spontaneously combust if you use it as a filter coffee or make an americano out of it.
Also, they have a truly bizarre policy of refusing to serve milk with their coffee as it "contaminates the integrity of the flavour". Fine by me, since I drink my coffee black anyhow, but still an unbelievably snobbish and pretentious attitude to take in the customer service industry. I mean, you do realize that you rely on people being willing to consume your product and listen to your dribble to keep your shop in business, right?
If you're looking for a place that looks down their nose at you and attempts to lecture you about coffee as if they personally invented the coffee bean, have at it. If I wanted a cup of coffee served with a side of contempt, I'd go visit my ex, and I'd save myself a few euros in...
