If you like weird theatrical stuff, supporting indie artists, love monsters, or have ever wondered "what if the Muppets were steampunk?" this is the place for you. Absolutely incredible creations from some great and imaginative artists. Exactly the kind of weird cool and unique stuff I came to Berlin hoping to find!

Tours happen once an hour (website says they happen on the half hour), last about 20 minutes, and adult tickets are €10 in cash. They ask you not to take photos, which I think is important to respect as it keeps the unique creatures resident in the place a surprise for future visitors, and you don't miss anything by trying to get a good shot. If you arrive with a bit of time to spare, there's a really cool bar opposite that has a similar vibe to the Monsterkabinett.

The artist leading the tour was really friendly and clearly loved his work and made it a great experience for everyone. He was multi-lingual and lead our tour in English but also spoke German, and spoke some Italian to an Italian family who were in the group.

They're open to kids going too, but use your own judgement - if your kid is scared of the dark or loud noises, this probably...

Created and maintained by an art collective known as the Dead Pigeon Collective, the Monster Kabinett is a warehouse full of strange art and costumed revelers, all waiting to put on a show each Thursday and Friday night. Good luck trying to figure out which creations are human and which are simply moving metal masterpieces.

Visitors are confronted with the stuff of nightmares, from skittering arachnoid robots to leering, malformed sculptures to aggressive actors straight out of a haunted house. Except this haunting is year-round.

The journey to the Monster Kabinett is a fitting one as well, down a dank alley off of a bustling city street. Most patrons are unsure of whether they’ve reached the right location until they’re directly in front of it, often greeted by a good-natured but somewhat off-key member of the collective.

The gallery is safe, of course, but built to instill and inspire as much fright and dread as possible. And rest assured, the Dead Pigeon Collective does that part very well. The Monster Kabinett better seen than heard, which is why their website is built as more of a tour than a repository of dry...

pneumatic, theatrical, mechanical monsters singing cacophonous songs in a basement. tour guides are high energy and eccentric. show is in english and/or german depending on the makeup of the group.

janky - instantly loveable. a technician is visible sat behind a sheer curtain and there are various PC screens and wires on full display.

loud and discordant noises. you walk through in darkness and then they illuminate the monsters one by one. lots of flashing lights so not suitable for people w seizures. the show lasts about 20 mins and there’s a no photos rule.

€10 entry (cash only) and a little gift shop at the end (€25 for a tshirt, €1.50 for a postcard, etc). tips are welcomed. show is at 30 mins past the hour and it’s a popular fringe attraction bc of atlas obscura so try to get there 20 mins early to buy ur ticket and then get a drink in the bar nearby.

so silly and goofy. love these monsters w all my heart. this isn’t for kids and it isn’t for adults, it’s for people w a good sense of humour and those who are into steampunk art / tim burton...

Well, I expected more after seeing all the stellar reviews. But I was sorely disappointed. The group was WAY too big for the tiny space, and the guide tried pushing people around so everyone would fit. We were uncomfortably shoved into tiny spaces and half of the group still couldn't see. The machines themselves were quite interesting, but looked way past their prime and in need of some fixing or updating. And don't get me started on the noise! Some of the machines were clearly saying things, but it was completely indecipherable because the music and mechanical noise was just too loud to discern anything! In the end we were shoved into a tiny mirrored room where a weird machine sang a song that was supposed to be the "song of souls"? But I couldn't make out a single word, it was just noisy. Definitely not appropriate for young children, and felt quite overpriced for what it was as well.

5/5! I loved monsterkabinett!! I had been to Berlin once before and was heartbroken to have visited only on days/times when this creepy little basement horror show was closed. It was my #1 to do item when I returned to the city and I was not disappointed!! I am so happy that a place as weird as this can exist in the world. Creative, strange, wondrous, confusing, chaotic, scary, bizzare, horrible, shocking, fantastic, childish, horrific: set your expectations accordingly for this 20 min basement peep show of dilapidated mechanical monster puppets and you will have an incredible, once in a lifetime experience. This is a must-do for anyone interested in macabre, sideshow, roadside attractions or alternative and performance arts <3

Very unique experience, glad we went! I recommend going in without any expectations and just embrace and enjoy the weirdness. The guide was great. Very energetic and entertaining, despite there only being 4 of us on the tour. Tickets were €12 (cash only), which you purchase shortly before the tour starts (there's a bench at the entrance to sit on and wait). We went on a Thursday and there was a tour every hour starting from 4:30. The tour goes for about 20 mins. It's quite loud, but they offer you headphones at the start. I used the loop earbuds I wear to concerts, and they were perfect.
