Worst hospitality experience i’ve ever had. Reserved for 9 people to celebrate a friends birthday, our server was an older woman with absolutely no patience. One girl in our group ordered the wrong drink on accident as the bar was loud and communication wasn’t always easy, when kindly asked(not insisted), if the drink could be replaced, we were met with scolding and aggressive mannerisms toward the girl. Around 30 minutes later the woman came again and asked if we were ready for another round which we declined as we were in conversation and hadn’t looked at the menu. An hour after that she came again and asked and we said we’d do another round but need to look at the menu for a few minutes as we’d still been very engaged in conversation. This prompted her to an over 5 minute speech on how: we had enough time to look at the menu and that’s it’s been there the entire time; we needed to order drinks right now or get out; usually she makes 500€ netto per group at this table; didn’t spend enough money; portrayed us as being ignorant and hogging the space; said she’d much rather have her regulars get this spot so we needed to leave, amongst other things. She followed this up by saying „Könnt ihr mich denn irgendwie verstehen?“ to which I responded no, her then sighing disgustedly and asking if we’re gonna order anything then. Half of our table wanted to order however we cancelled that as she said those not ordering need to leave. I myself work in hospitality and this pure disrespect, aggressive manner and almost preconceived classism is completely unacceptable no matter the quality of your establishment. If she would’ve warned us before that we get a time frame of reservation let’s say 90 minutes where we need to spend 500€ that would’ve been completely fine but no warning and then a complete melt down and scolding? I’ve also had considerably better daiquiris, but atleast they weren’t stingy on the...
Read moreI heard a lot about this bar ... tried to get in but the gatekeeper didn't let me in. But we are keen cocktail drinkers, so we tried again.
And to be frank: We were very disappointed. The bar was full to the brink - if you have door-service, see that you keep people out when it's too crowded. The service we couldn't enjoy, since we ordered our drinks at the bar - but the drinks were not good.
I had Sloe Gin Fizz that basically tasted like mineral water with ice and grenadine and my friends didn't fare much better. The drinks were also not decorated or "spiced up" as you would expect from a great cocktail bar. The bar serves only classic cocktails (which any good cocktail bar can make and will make but won't put on the menu) - so nothing new or signature to drink and try.
The prices were slightly - roughly around 1-2€ less - than in better cocktail bars - which should give you an indication were quality begins in the world of cocktails. I should have been critical at the price of 10,50€ but ... then again ... who knows.
I'll have to give 2 stars since the style is quite nice (giving you an old, classy 60s Airport-Lounge vibe) but that's it.
If you want to enjoy cocktails in the area, there is the "Green Door" 10 minutes away from the victoria bar. One of THE best cocktail bars in Berlin. If that is full, the Salut! is also not far off. And if it is cold and you don't want to march through Schöneberg in the middle of the night, the bar at the restaurant "Sticks & Sushi" across the street serves decent cocktails as well - with signature drinks on the menu.
All better...
Read moreThe best bar in Berlin when it comes to classic cocktails and culture. They have an impressive and diverse, yet well curated cocktail card but if you're feeling adventurous and the house isn't to busy, the bartenders are very creative, competent and will gladly make you a personalized or imaginative modern concoction.
Champagne Cocktail Champions and the blonde, bespectacled bar chief is the keeper of the best Mai Tai I've had in my entire life (I've had my share). It's easily the best in Berlin, definitely Germany, probably Europe, if not even further. The staff is lovely and professional, the vibe is fantastic, the food is exceptional and I may or may not have proposed to the chef after trying his club sandwich.
The space is fancy but hip. Prices to match but the daily happy hour is simply unbeatable in Berlin. Not a place to roll into in shorts and a t-shirt, nor the best place in town for a beer or glass of wine. They have a pleasant little selection if that's your preference, but other places specialize in that in Berlin; this is cocktail mecca in town.
I cannot recommend this place enough. One of my favorite bars in town as an 11-year expat, a cocktail enthusiast and a long time...
