The Sesselbahn-Terrassen-Café in Cochem offers a truly beautiful view once you get to the top. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing. This is the only café on the mountain, and they only accept cash. Luckily, we had just enough with us. Prices are very high, clearly taking advantage of the location and the fact that they are the only place to rest and drink/eat something. We paid over €30 for two small pizzas (not great, but acceptable) and two soft drinks.

Service was not particularly friendly, more businesslike than welcoming. Inside, the atmosphere is not very cozy or stylish. The terrace outside is nice, but more than half of the seating is in full sun with no option for shade. On a hot day like our visit (31°C), it was uncomfortable, especially after a long and exhausting hike.

The view is worth it, but make sure to bring enough cash and be prepared for...

It's ok to be busy, but being totally rude is not acceptable. We went there around noon today and the waiter asked us if we were ready to order. We told him we would be ready in a short while and folded the menus, to indicate our readiness. We waited half an hour and started signaling towards him, discretely. Those signs were totally ignored. After yet another while of waiting, we attended him and told him that we were ready to give our order. He just cramped and continued ignoring us. Even when I attended the personnel in the bar, who requested him to come, he totally ignored me. In defence of the waitress, having shift at the same time as he did, she was very kind and understanding. However, we went away with crying kids and empty stomachs. Thank you so much for abusing your monopoly, as being the only dining...

Tough not to stop at this place given the spectacular views, but places like this can go one of two ways: a truly spectacular experience worth going out of the way for, or a mediocre spot that leans on its view and being the only option in the area. Unfortunately, this spot felt like the latter. Not saying it was bad, it was just fine. Prices weren’t overly steep for the view. The food was ok. Would’ve like a few more beer options. So I wouldn’t say go out of your way for it, but not the worst place to stop for a drink or lunch if you go up the mountain. Btw- we were there in late October. Outdoor seating was minimally covered...

Sat down at the table already knowing what I wanted to order and have been waving my hand and getting attention from more than one waiters but all my responses were ‘wait, we will be with you soon’ ‘my colleague will take your order’ then continued getting their attention for the next 15mins. No one bothered even stopping by. After 15mins of waiting and being hungry I stood up and left. As a restaurant manager at other restaurants once told me: ‘if you want fast food, go to McDonalds’ so that’s exactly what I did, took the chair lift back down and drove to McDonald’s instead. Yum!
