The Sesselbahn-Terrassen-Café in Cochem offers a truly beautiful view once you get to the top. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing. This is the only café on the mountain, and they only accept cash. Luckily, we had just enough with us. Prices are very high, clearly taking advantage of the location and the fact that they are the only place to rest and drink/eat something. We paid over €30 for two small pizzas (not great, but acceptable) and two soft drinks.
Service was not particularly friendly, more businesslike than welcoming. Inside, the atmosphere is not very cozy or stylish. The terrace outside is nice, but more than half of the seating is in full sun with no option for shade. On a hot day like our visit (31°C), it was uncomfortable, especially after a long and exhausting hike.
The view is worth it, but make sure to bring enough cash and be prepared for...
Read moreIt's ok to be busy, but being totally rude is not acceptable. We went there around noon today and the waiter asked us if we were ready to order. After yet another while of waiting, we attended him and told him that we were ready to give our order. He just cramped and continued ignoring us. Even when I attended the personnel in the bar, who requested him to come, he totally ignored me. In defence of the waitress, having shift at the same time as he did, she was very kind and understanding. However, we went away with crying kids and empty stomachs. Thank you so much for abusing your monopoly, as being the only dining...
Read moreTough not to stop at this place given the spectacular views, but places like this can go one of two ways: a truly spectacular experience worth going out of the way for, or a mediocre spot that leans on its view and being the only option in the area. Unfortunately, this spot felt like the latter. Not saying it was bad, it was just fine. Prices weren’t overly steep for the view. The food was ok. Would’ve like a few more beer options. So I wouldn’t say go out of your way for it, but not the worst place to stop for a drink or lunch if you go up the mountain. Btw- we were there in late October. Outdoor seating was minimally covered...
