Istanbul Restaurant - Köln — Restaurant in Cologne

I didn't fly all the way from home to here to try Turkish food. But the day I arrived in Cologne and was walking around to hunt my dinner this restaurant came to my attention right from the corner of the hotel I stayed. Quite a few people lined up and all seats seemed taken on the Christmas Eve. Luckily I got the table and a super friendly man, Merdeka, attended to me recommending Kuzu Pirzola (4 Lammkoteletts mit Salat und Reis or Grilled lamb with salad and rice). At the beginning, I felt reluctant because I did not fancy beef or meat that night but then I decided on it because that would seem to be the only choice left for me when browsing through the menu. So I just gave myself a why not kinda reason to munch Turkish style lamb. It turned out to be something I could not stop eating, and the perfection lies in the combination of lamb, shredded veggies and a grilled red hot chilli. The bread starter with special sauces was good as well.

The restaurant is not far from the hbf station of cologne. So if you get into this town , suddenly become hungry, and have no idea of what to eat, just give yourself a try. You may not want to go as far as turkey to try delicious home cooked...

We arrived at noon on Friday, the atmosphere in the restaurant was very noisy and hot. There were 3 of us and we ordered food for each person with a portion of Turkish bread, a portion of kebab, a pizza and a bottle of water. After about 15 minutes, the staff brought the food but mistakenly gave us 2 portions of kebab, we didn't want to wait any longer so we accepted this mistake. The food looked good, it should taste moderate, however, there were no common spices like ketchup or Tabasco like in restaurants that serve pizza. The saddest thing was that the receptionist miscalculated our bill from 1 bottle of water to 3 bottles of water, if we hadn't checked again, I might have paid the wrong amount. Me and my sister arrived at the restaurant first, so went to sit at a large table which can accommodate a total of 6 of our family members. But as soon as we sat, one of their staff was yelling at us for sitting at a large table when there were only 2 of us. We didn’t even get the chance to explain that it wasn’t just me and my sister, but we were a large family and the rest were on their way coming in a few seconds.
