The Church of St. Andrew is an interesting Romanesque church located in the old town. First built in the 10th century, it wasn’t rebuilt in the Romanesque until the 12th century. It’s not much to look at from the outside. Inside the church has some points of interest.
The church has a crypt with the remains of the 13th-century theologian and natural philosopher St. Albertus Magnus, stored in a stone sarcophagus. There’s also a reliquary gilded with copper. , known as the Maccabee shrine. According to tradition is said to contain relics of the seven holy Maccabee brothers and their mother Salome. The interior also has some a mix of pretty contemporary and traditional stained glass windows.
As befits a church dedicated to Saint Andrew, there’s sculptures and paintings depicting the saint and the X cross associated with him. Including a painting of his crucifixion.
