Due to the renovation the MAKK only had a small exhibit, hence the reduced admission fee. I liked the small exhibit 'Kunst + Design im Dialog', which was worth the €4. It made me want to come back and revisit the museum in the future after the renovation. The museum makes use of an app that you can download on your smartphone and use as a free audio guide. That worked really well. So overall a thumbs up for the MAKK.
What dampened the experience was the attitude of the people working at the museum. Aside from the elderly lady working the cloakroom who was very friendly and hospitable, everyone came across uninterested and bored.
Even though there are cameras everywhere it felt as if they were stalking us. This was worsened by the fact that they didn't interact with the public from saying 'hi' or maybe engaging in brief conversations about the experiences of the visitors at the MAKK.
The worst experience was someone barking down (from two stories up) to get off the round red carpet where a Classic Mercedes was displayed. This guard-like behavior, was illustrative of a bigger organizational culture problem among the people in visitor facing functions at MAKK, which, I believe, management of the MAKK should address
To me as an outsider it was almost as if there were too many people for the tasks at hand, boredom of the people, and no genuine interest of the people working there to act as a host of what could potentially be a great museum experience.
Maybe the lady at the cloakroom should reveal her secret to the others and...

The special exhibition was small and eclectic; I'd recommend it only for people with deep interest in the local art scene. Good: The exhibition booklet is very detailed. Bad: it is not obvious which description in the booklet refers to which exhibit. How about putting numbers on the exhibits for identification? Overall, I recommend the permanent exhibition; the special exhibition was somewhat interesting but let down by not being...
