Olafs — Restaurant in Dortmund

Heard this joint had a rockin' 4.8 on Google, and seeing as they're all about homemade burgers, I had some pretty high hopes. Kicked things off with a bang, that waitress handed me a couple of beers to sample. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got.

Those fries? Pretty darn overcooked, man. Crunchy as all get-out on the outside, and not in a good way. Then there's the 'Big Olaf' burger. Too much bread, too little meat. Felt like I was eating a loaf of bread with a sliver of beef in the middle. And the mayo and grease? Felt like it was swimming in the stuff. Nothing to write home about in the flavor department, either.

And don't even get me started on the payment. Bring your cash or your EC Card, because that's all they're taking. I really wanted to dig this place, and I respect their hustle, but right now, they're just swingin'...

Excellent! New to the city and just happened to go in for a beer and ended up eating because they were smoking the pork and it smelled soooo good and I wanted to try it. The highlight was the sauce they provided with their pulled pork teller. The hot (naga) chilli sauce along with the caramelised onions were wonderful. We asked for their hottest sauce. But they do keep a mild sauce in case you don't like it too hot. The cheese tasted bland more like the processed (cheddar?) American burger cheeses. But it didn't ruin anything. The staff were nice and friendly. The chef came to us hearing that we wanted the hottest sauce and told us it was the naga variety and he prefers it...

Simply sensational. The team at Olafs is on a roll. World-class burgers and BBQ along with seasonal specials. Everything is made from scratch and prepared expertly. Yes, even the delightful brioche buns are made in-house. Remember that truffle mayonnaise with specks of truffle that were too few and far between to add meaningful flavor? Not here. Generous helpings of truffle shavings abound and accompany the otherwise contemporary yet authentic burger experience. Perfectly prepared BBQ fare that is creative and shows care. A delightfully attentive and fun wait staff that doesn’t miss a beat and is there to help you select the perfect course. Vegetarian...
