Overall, a disappointing experience with some good points. This place has so much potential, but just fails to live up to it. It gives one the impression that someone with a bit of money and some social media savvy wanted to open a restaurant and had a good idea, but ultimately doesn't know much about food or flavour.
The good points: Service is friendly, fast and efficient with excellent English. The homemade spritzers are absolutely delicious. Ambience is lovely, bright and has a "hygge" vibe. Very welcoming, although some of our party thought a splash of colour wouldn't go amiss, it is very beige. Amazing concept. Düsseldorf is in dire need of breakfast/brunch options during the week and the all-day bit is just an added bonus, really fills a gap in the market. Presentation is excellent - all the plating is just beautiful and looks like it is going to be very tasty, alas...
The bad points: The food. While it looks beautiful, it lacks flavour and seasoning. The menu is a bit boring for brunch. Brunch is great in that you can have a little bit of lunch and a little bit of breakfast, but here it's basically a page of toasts and a few egg choices with an option for pancakes and French toast. There should be omelettes and quiche and a main dish or two (maybe a daily special?) and perhaps a proper sandwich or two.
The toast options are overworked. Too much fluff, not enough substance.
I had the burrata and tomato toast which supposedly came with colourful tomatoes, mine were just red. Yes that's a colour, but the description suggests multiple colours will be involved. The over-toasted dark bread was lathered with a poor quality under-seasoned pesto that completely overpowered the burrata and tomatoes. Less is more here. The choice of bread seems to be the same for all the toasts which doesn't make any sense, this should be adjusted based on the topping. Rye has no business with the delicate toppings promised here. The worst bit for me however, was that there was no acidic component to the dish. This is such a basic mistake to make and so sorely missing from a dish that uses such simple ingredients that it led me to believe that whoever is in the kitchen is not a chef or even a foodie. Even a drizzle of balsamic glaze would have helped. The burrata used was either poor quality, old or not burrata. The creamy centre was non-existent. The tomatoes too were flavourless, as were the ones in the accompanying salad which was also not seasoned or properly dressed. But then that begs the question - why use things not in season at all?
One of our party ordered eggs benedict. She is allergic to yeast and asked for the eggs benedict without bread. She repeated this twice. The dish came on bread. She noted this and was told to just not eat it. She politely declined and the waitress took it away. We presumed this was to re-create the dish as ordered, as would be appropriate in a situation like this. It was brought back less than a minute later without bread. Clearly the eggs had just been scraped off the bread. Really bad form. The poached eggs were beyond poached, the yolk was completely cooked through. Another hint that the person in the back doesn't really know what they are doing.
The other two dishes we ordered were ok, but all acknowledged they were lacking flavour and seasoning.
So all in all, disappointing. The Kardashian look-a-likes are out in force posing with the food here and hyping it up. While this is a decent concept for starting out, it only works long-term if the food backs up the hype and in this case it does not.
This is so easily fixable here. Hell, I could come fix it myself. This food is not rocket science, it's brunch. It just needs a competent cook with a good palate in the back of the house. Fix the menu, integrate seasonal components (it will increase flavour AND reduce food cost!), season everything and integrate acid, salt and texture. The location and ambience and service are all good... but ultimately what will get people to come back and sustain the business...
Read moreThe food was tasty but the price quality could be improved. With the breads option, you just get 1 slice of bread, and the rest of the meal consisted of a very basic side salad (with some lettuce, radice, and tomato) which took half the plate. For 16eur a meal, that was kinda overpriced. The food was overall tasty so we’ll give that a pass rating wise. However, what kinda shocked us was the attitude of the waitress, she seemed not to keen to have us, but reluctantly gave us a table. She took the order with attitude. When we finished the food she also immediately asked if we wanted the bill. but this is considered quite rude as guests usually ask the bill themselves. Basically giving us the feeling of rushing us to have us leave asap. If it was busy during a peak moment and we’d be taking the table without any order, I would even sort of understand, but is was a quiet dat with only a handful of customers on the terrace with plenty of spots left. Cause we were relaxing we asked for another rounds of drinks instead, which was met with a side eye. She also didn’t acknowledge taking the order, and walked inside - so we didn’t know if she’d heard it. Eventually after 5-10mins a colleague brought the drinks. Later during payment the waitress suddenly decided to act friendly and start a small talk, which felt very forced and unnatural after making us not feel welcome the entire time. So yeah, save to say we would not recommend this place nor return here. Please note the visit was during summer but just noticed it wasn’t posted before. This review may no longer be accurate for the staff...
Read moreHmm we came here just because we saw a lot videos about the place on Instagram/TikTok so we were kinda curious. We came on Sunday around 11:30 and we had to queue for 30 minutes outside because every tables are full and we‘re not allowed to reserve a table during weekend. I mean if you had time, then it‘s okay to stay in the queue but i don‘t think it‘s totally worth it.
I honestly love the interior of the place, it was great, giving you such a holiday vibes, it was cozy and personal are super nice and friendly. The foods were really okay, it‘s average brunch place, quite pricey though, and the portion wasn‘t that big. So i‘m not sure if i wanna come back or not.
We had Ice Matcha Latte (7,5/10) hmmm i‘ve tasted better matcha, this one i even barely taste the matcha itself, it was too much milk and ice. French Toast (7,8/10) the only great thing was the Biscoff Sauce and the platting. Pesto Bread (7,8/10) two thin slices of bread with pesto and tomato and some salad, i don‘t think people will be full with this dish😅
Anyway, i‘ve...
