Tried Wen Cheng noodles in Düsseldorf, and wow… what a journey. Unfortunately, not the journey I signed up for.
The beef was as dry as a philosophy lecture at 8 a.m. My “Wen Cheng noodles” (not Biang Biang) came with a soup that tasted exactly like melted butter. Which is fun if you’re ordering popcorn at the cinema, but a little confusing when you’re expecting a soulful noodle broth. I usually love a rich soup base, but I can’t drink liquid butter without feeling like Paula Deen’s long-lost apprentice.
The diced tomatoes and sauce? Salt bombs. The kind where you sip once and immediately start bargaining with your kidneys.
We also tried the chicken bao, and honestly, nothing about it said “Asian.” The chicken was dry, the sauce somehow managed to be both too fatty and too salty, and then… pickles? Not the good kind, either — just a confusing “fusion” attempt that felt like the culinary equivalent of a bad cover song.
Overall, it felt like the soul of Chinese noodle soup and bao both took a quick vacation and never came back. White-washed to the point where you wonder if someone in the kitchen thought, “what if we made noodles… but German?”
Not for me. But hey — if your taste buds are permanently on vacation, you might still enjoy it.
P.s. service was relatively attentive and friendly! Ambience was giving street food vibes if...

We ordered for a lamb biangbiang noddles with cumin, while the lamb itself was good and cooked to perfection but the cumin was quite overpowering. The noodles itself were doughy, raw and clumped. And the chicken bao seemed like a burger with jalapeños and some kind of mayo which did not get well together. Really sad that this turned out this way as we had somehow very high hopes with such positive reviews and a huge queue outside the restaurant. I wish they change the way how noodles are made, since they just opened last month I hope this review is taken constructively and for further improvement....
Read moreBerlin's hyped Wen Cheng flat noodle mini chain have opened their first branch in Dusseldorf in September 2025. Compared to my previous visits in Berlin over the years, the taste is still good, but the portions have become a bit smaller and the prices have slightly increased (18€+ for a single serving of noodles with beef or lamb, that isn't actually huge). Also note there are only soft drink options (no beer or wine offered). Last thing to mention, there was a long queue to get a table, which I guess is expected for a hyped new opening - I hope it goes away in...
