Trödler zur Burgschenke — Restaurant in Esslingen am Neckar

We went twice and it was even better than the 1st time! #1 Restaurant for schnitzel and spaetzle! We ordered a Hugo Spritz (my new fave) and a large water for bf. Necktar graciously set us up with silverware and immediately served our drinks and was a true professional. But OMG! Our favorite employee was Petrit! He served us the first time and cooked our lunch this time! Wow is all I can say. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked and you get way more meat than most pounded out schnitzels. AND THE SPAETZLE! He sautéed in butter and topped it off with the finest of seasoned bread crumbs! (I'm pretty sure he added some finely grated parmesan) IT WAS FABULOUS! Like couldn't stop eating it! I left there truly completely full but not uncomfortable. (Germany has way better food restrictions than we do) Do yourself a favor and take your time up at the top of the castle and have a drink on the castle terrace and then go inside (or stay outside) and order a beautiful dinner. You wont regret it. AND...

Beautiful views coupled with hearty German food! This large restaurant offers quality meals in a historically decorated restaurant. Although at a tourist attraction, the food and service here is superb and very good value. If it's Pfefflinger season there are a number of specials you can try - the Schnitzel was great! I can also recommend the mixed-grill plate, which you can work off with a nice walk through the grounds and into downtown afterwards. Perfect for groups with large tables inside and on the terrace.

Located at the Esslinger Burg, you can catch a bus directly from the city center, otherwise you'll be working up a massive appetite by walking...

Beautiful scenery, cosy place. But... The last three times we've been there 2017, 2019 and 2020, they disappointed a bit with food quality and taste. Also the service lacked of speed and no credit card payment possible, that's a no-go for touristic place like this in the 21st century. Well, of course, a medieval castle never needed online payment and friendly staff in medieval ages - so centuries ago I would gave given 5 years. But today two stars only for the below average restaurant. We only come for the view and know some better places for good swabian food in the old city. The good view is considered in my rating...
