I've been wanting to try this place for some time but it was usually booked out on weekends. Finally got a table on a weeknight around 7:30 and it was fairly busy. The menu here is a little overwhelming as they have a little bit of everything (grilled food, ramen, soba, sushi etc). They had a Bento special for dinner but upon ordering it the waitress had informed us it was only available for takeout. I found this to be a missed opportunity especially for the indecisive ones who want to try a little bit of everything. We ended up ordering a snack and getting the bentos to go. The service was extremely slow, we had ordered green tea and grilled squid which took close 50mins to make. The bentos were a little lack luster. The Makunouchi had grilled salmon, karaage, and shrimp tempura with rice and veggies. There was too much batter for the tempura but the salmon and chicken were pretty average. The tonkatsu bento was pretty standard and came with its own sauce. The other items on the menu were a little pricy. The atmosphere was nice especially with their private patio that's blocked off with hedges from traffic. Otherwise I wouldn't really recommend coming here unless you're willing to pay a pretty penny and have the patience of a monk to be served.

Mangetsu close to the Frankfurt Messe is something of your neighbourhood Japanese diner. Whilst they do not mind to have the most stylish decor and most minimalist ambience, they certainly care about their excellent food. Packed with Japanese and Asian guests they feature one of the most extensive menus you can hope for. And all is good and often excellent. Appetizers, cold and warm startes, superb Sashimi dishes, many warm specialities, freshest fish and meat and poultry dishes and all nothing to wish for sushi and nigiri offerings. What your heard desires, you will find here. The place is packed, the sake list is impressive one could do more on the German wines. Room for improvement. This is a place you will never be disappointed! You must make a reservation. And you will find the prices more than reasonable! Frankfurt is worth the trip for a Japanese dinner weekend alone, Frankfurt left Düsseldorf behind in terms of Good to exceptional Japanese restaurants years ago! Enjoy!

Sushi (salmon avocado) and karaage are very delicious, but miso ramen tasted strange and the broth was not authentic. This is not surprising since the restaurant does not specialize in ramen. If you’re looking for authentic ramen, Frankfurt has many good alternatives to offer. Apart from the food, the waitresses were not friendly at all; when we tried to make a reservation, a waitress yelled us on the phone because we misunderstood her question due to the thick accent. This is not anyone’s fault but yelling seemed to be a bit dramatic. And when we arrived at the restaurant, they made us to wait for some minutes by the door, walking passed by us many times even though the reserved table was ready. To be honest, waitresses just looked like they didn’t want to work there. Yes, it was very busy, but still, people go to restaurant not just for its food but also for its service. Ps< no light in the washroom and the waitress looked annoyed at me when I told her this. 🫡

So, we went here with high hopes for a nice Friday dinner and were greatly disappointed. I can fully understand when a restaurant has a lot to do in the peak hours and don’t mind waiting for my food for a bit. But when I still haven’t received my order after 1 and a half hours and friendly ask the waitress if it’s going to take much longer I expect a friendly response in return. My experience was the total opposite though. I also understand that the staff can be stressed since a lot of customers were asking about their food, but it’s still not ok to turn around and respond in a condescending and loud manner.

Further negative points: everyone’s food came at different times, some of us were still waiting for their first order after some of us received theirs 20min prior. We called and reserved a table and had to find out that one of the chairs at the reserved table was broken. The portions (even the ones marked as big) are extremely small and so quite expensive for their size and quality. Although the restaurant has lots of servers only two can take orders (and they were clearly overwhelmed with all the tables and receiving guests at the entrance, as well as receiving the phone calls), therefore expanding even further the waiting time for the food and drinks.

One positive point: the sushi was truly great, even though we had to wait almost two...

Unsure what to think any more.

Roughly ten days ago we arrived as a group of four. The rain was pourring. Just as we stepped in, a table for four became available. Timing: impeccable))

We placed our order, takeaway, and everything was going smoothly until we were asked, quite politely, to wait outside due to the limited space inside.

A couple of minutes later, two new customers walked in and were seated at the very same table we had just watched become free.

Now, I fully understand that seating might be for dine-in customers. But we had already ordered, we were there first, and we weren’t asking to sit for lunch. Just to stay dry while waiting a few minutes for our food. A bit of flexibility or plain common sense would’ve gone a long way. Moreover, even if taking away, there is no reduction for the food we ate. I felt having to wait outside as if we were pests.

The food, to be fair, is quite good and that’s what saves the rating. But the whole scene deserved to be shared, if only to encourage future consideration for clients caught between hunger...
