O'Kellys Irish Pub — Restaurant in Freiburg im Breisgau

First of all, I wanted to give a back story of why I gave the food only 1 star. I visited O'Kelly's for the first time upon a friend's recommendation to try their fish and chips. It's the chef's recommendation and I love fish and chips! Sadly, the white fish was under seasoned or not seasoned at all. The batter was undercooked so everything was soggy. The fries were cold and also not seasoned. I was really disappointed because I was really looking forward to it, especially after being caught in the rain. We told the server about the fish. He listened to us very attentively and told us that they had gotten a different fish over the Christmas season. And then he said he would communicate with the chef and his boss about the fish. And then he came back to our table and thanked us repeatedly for letting them know about the fish. He didn't charge us for our table. I have to say the service recovery is very very good but I almost felt as if they knew that they would have problems with the new fish and the server came to us prepared with an answer. Maybe it's me overthinking. Also I don't think the fish is the only problem but also the cooking. Other than that, the ambience was good. It's as Irish as an Irish bar goes. We walked into a full restaurant and it was bustling and quite loud. We were lucky to have found a table ourselves. The server was quick to come to our table and took our orders. The servers spoke perfect English for customers who don't speak German. It's maybe 10 minutes on foot from the train station. Despite the food, I would visit again the next time I'm in Freiburg. Service The staff are mostly foreigners but speak both German and English. I highly recommend you this pub if you have a difficult time ordering in German.

Everyone is super friendly, they are quite attentive and meet you at eye level.

Although there is almost always a lot going on, they keep their cool which is so sweet!

Atmosphere I've never been to Ireland but I imagine the bar to be a bit like Ireland. There is a pun quiz every Monday which is extremely fun!

It gets quite loud sometimes. Which is a shame if you're really into talking to someone. But that's a pub, that's normal.

The food. THE FOOOD!!!! In Freiburg, everything seems to close at 22:00 After that? Good luck finding a place to eat.

Or, you come to O'Kelly's. They have a mid wide food menu that gives you a good indicator that the food is fresh(?) From wraps to burgers to fries and even a special. So far I've only had burgers because I am a sucker for good burgers. Which is why I go here if it gets late. These have to be if not the 3rd best burgers in town. They could work on their sauce but that's also just me being hyper critical as a burger conoseur.

Go here. Just do it.

Vor kurzem war ich erneut mit Kollegen in O‘Kelley’s zu Besuch. Ist meiner persönlichen Meinung nach die beste Bar in Freiburg. Es herrscht fast immer ne super Stimmung, die Bedienung ist freundlich und die Getränke natürlich auch Top. Nun wollten wir aber ausnahmsweise mal auch was richtiges essen, da wir bisher sonst vom Fingerfood begeistert waren - die Pommes und die Wings sind super, echt empfehlenswert. Da ich eh immer eher was größeres und auch neues probieren will, fiel mir schon beim ersten Mal in dem Pub der Godfather Burger ins Auge. Preislich zwar etwas teuer, jedoch verspricht er auch fiel. Die Kollegen wählten da eher kleiner - 2 Mal der BBQ Burger und ein Mal der mit Bacon. Die Kollegin die uns bediente war überaus freundlich und das erste Essen kam auch schnell. Es waren alle Burger bis auf meinen. Da ich Hunger hatte, habe ich auch probiert - waren beide glaube ich die besten Burger die ich in dem Preissegment und drüber in Freiburg kenne. Dann kam meiner - er war schon zu dem Moment etwas kalt und es mangelte stark an Soße. Auch war das obere Brötchen ziemlich kalt und irgendwie auch nass. Also im ganzen nicht das angenehmste Gefühl. Da das Lokal voll war und die Bedienung voll zu tun hatte, entschied ich mich den zu essen. War dann im ganzen einfach nur gefühlt ein schlechter Big Mac für das 10fache des Preises. Ich wollte während des Essen die Kollegin abfangen und sie lediglich darauf aufmerksam machen das es so war und das man nächstes mal evtl stärker drauf achten sollte - nicht um mir einen neuen Burger zu holen. Jedoch konnte ich keinen der Mitarbeiter wirklich ansprechen da sie sonst voll zu tun hatten und nur an uns vorbei rannten, also habe ich es sein lassen. Zur Anmerkung, den anderen hat es super geschmeckt…. Jetzt meine Ehrliche Meinung dazu. O Kelley’s ist und bleibt Freiburgs beste Bar, auch nach der leider negativen Erfahrung mit dem Essen meinerseits. Die Atmosphäre ist äußerst angenehm und vor allem die Montage mit den Quizabend machen Spaß (Grüße geht raus - Till Schweiger ist immer die Lösung) Mir ist bewusst dass die Mitarbeiter und vermutlich auch die Küche voll zu tun hatten - ich arbeite selber seit Jahren in der Gastronomie und kann sie voll verstehen. Auch als immer wiederkommender Kunde kenne ich den Pub und die „gestresste“ Situation nur zu gut. Also verstehe ich es im ganzen schon wieso es manchmal zu Fehlern kommt. Ich würde gerne dem Godfather eine neue Chance geben und würde auch gern die Bewertung ändern, daher muss ich mal schauen ob ich im kommenden Jahr es evtl. erneut versuche - nur ist der Burger jetzt nicht grad der billigste um das einfach zu sagen und einen neuen „Griff ins Klo“ (sry, aber war leider meine Erfahrung) für rund 40€ würde ich mir ungern noch mal geben, daher schaue ich mal ob ich noch mal dazu komme. Aber als Anmerkung - ich vermute (und hoffe), dass ihr eine andere Erfahrung machen werdet als ich. Fehler passieren, und bei O Kelley’s sind die eher selten (und bei den Getränken noch nie). Empfehlen würde ich also die Bar auf jeden Fall. Ich wünsche allen einen guten Rutsch ins...
