Badshah-i-Dian - Authentic Indian Flavors & Great Value Near Hamburg Hbf
For a taste of genuine Indian cuisine conveniently close to Hamburg's main train station (Hauptbahnhof), Badshah-i-Dian is a fantastic find. This unassuming restaurant delivers where it counts most: delicious food, speed, and taste. Stepping inside feels like entering a bustling local eatery straight from India. The decor is simple and functional, featuring basic tables for two or four, with a total capacity of around 40. Don't expect table service – you order and pay upfront at the cashier and are given a number. This streamlined system contributes to their impressive efficiency. The real stars here are the speed and the taste. Even during peak rush hour, expect your food to arrive piping hot within a remarkably quick 10-15 minutes. Portion sizes are generous for both starters and main courses. The menu offers a wide variety to satisfy all preferences, with plenty of enticing options for both vegetarians and meat lovers.
While the presentation is simple and straightforward, the focus is clearly on flavor – and the food is truly delicious. The authentic taste profile strongly evokes the experience of dining in local Indian restaurants. Considering the quality, generous portions, and speed, the prices are very reasonable, especially compared to standard fast-food chains. It offers outstanding value for money. Read moreThe best place to have a Naan and Curry. It's not a restaurant on any given scale, but it reminds you of a typical roadside joint in any of the most downtrodden roads of Delhi or any other city so to speak. Its subterranean and looks don't matter if the food is amazing.
Don't go with the menu as its not very appealing but you would see the warmer in front with 6 curries and Pakoras. Choose one of them. Small selection but will appeal your taste buds.
They serve a thali with the main dish along with a Dal and a Naan and rice along with it. They do sprinkle some salad which I do not eat but I always ask for red onions. Which is very typical of North Indian cuisine. They also have a good selection of North Indian sweets and snacks.
The very best at this place is the typical 'Punjabi Chole Bhathure'.
One definite negative is the restroom maintenance. Hope they get that in order. Still the same..
Cosy, stingy and still a place where you can eat and be happy.
Service At times very unfriendly and if you are a Punjabi you get a special treatment. Ask for a helping of onions they will give a stare and give you a sarcastic comment. Really this place has changed. Have seen better places and...
Read moreAs many of the reviews already mention; the place, street and atmosphere seems a little sketchy. However, with an open mind you will get to taste how absolutely delicious the food is. Definitely the tastiest Indian food I have had in my life (so far). Note that the restaurant isn’t fancy, and the vibe in there is very multicultural with people from all over the world, so if this isn’t your cup of tea then don’t approach this place... (your loss). Moreover, you can not expect a seat as the restaurant is very popular.
The meals are super inexpensive with a full plate for the cost of 5-7 euros depending on selection.
As for the menu: I can recommend the mango lassi - absolutely delicious!! Also the samosas are very delicious, fulfilling and probably the best thing I ordered.
I am not a big fan of spicy food and told the chef, good thing they have options for both spicy-loving people and those who can’t handle spice (me).
The reason why I did not give 5 stars, and I must admit this is a deal breaker for me and many foodies out there and MOST PROBABLY A MISTAKE: but I found a hair in my food... however, I’m sure if I stop by Hamburg again, I’d get a snack or meal there. Everyone...
