Copenhagen Coffee Lab — Restaurant in Hamburg

To start off the location is great and the food/bakery available is quite good. The problem comes when it is about the coffee... Depending on the person working behind the counter I don't go there because I'm afraid I'll get a really bad coffee... Once a lady, that was also really unfriendly to a new coworker just in front of us, basically just knew how the machine worked (press the button) and the frothed like it was a dancing act. It was sad... I understand that there are not many baristas out there, but it should be required to at least have some knowledge of coffee making. There are a few good ones working there, but lately they were not there. I'm writing this because I care about good coffee and know it's possible to see a change here. They are even listed on the brewboys good coffee list, which makes me even more sad. I leave here with the hope of a real change... Otherwise there is another great option just...

Far too expensive, especially if you consider that it is self-service and that the quality of the food is at best average. No choice of different coffee beans! Coffee is not good, too roasted, too aggressive. They serve Cortado and don't know what a real Cortado is. They serve it with a 3/4 of foamed milk and a Cortado, correctly done like in Spain where it originates from, is just an espresso with a little not foamed milk in it. Prices are far higher than in really good pastries and the quality is far of being at the level of the prices. One of this many overhyped places that have no clue about real European pastry and coffee culture and just imitate what the Americans have...

Ich bin in dem Café gewesen, weil sie ein Workspace für Laptops haben, dass mehrere Studenten und Fleelancer anzieht. Leider sind die Steckdosen auf dem Tisch defekt und somit ist die Nutzung des Workspace ein bisschen eingeschränkt, eben so lange, wie der Laptop-Akku hält, dann muss man sich umsetzen, wo eine Steckdose ist. Die Bestuhlung ist eher funktional, nicht unbedingt die bequemste und schickeste Variante. Da wurde definitiv gespart, im Vergleich zum restlichen Design. Ansonsten sind die Preise sehr hoch: Cappuccino 4,50 Eur, Latte 5,80 Eur, ein Sandwich 7,00 Eur, Frühstück 15,00 Eur. In Blankenese kennt man solche Preise, aber in Barmbek-Nord? Und dann muss man den Kaffee auch noch selbst holen und dann alles Geschirr selbst abräumen... Das Personal spricht auch fließend Englisch, was internationale Gäste anzieht. Wenn nicht gerade Personalmangel herrscht und die Gäste mehrere Stunden vor den offiziellen Schließungszeiten rausgebeten werden, weil kein Ersatzkellner, Springer die Schicht ablöst, dann bedienen sie auch Kunden, die nach 18 Uhr kommen. Das Personal weiß aber leider sehr wenig über die Backwaren, die sie verkaufen. Habe danach gefragt, welches Mehl sie verwenden, Weizenmehl oder Dinkelmehl. Leider keine Infos darüber.

Lautstärke nimmt in den Nachmittagsstunden, 14/15 Uhr extrem zu, dass ein ruhiges Arbeiten oder ein ruhiges Gespräch nicht mehr geht. Am besten nur am Vormittag dort hin, wenn man lautstärkeempfindlich ist.

Toiletten gibt es nur 2x. Wartezeiten können so entstehen. Ausstattung ist Minimalistisch und erinnert an Kaufhaus. Auch da wurde gespart. Toilette war war insgesamt sauber.

Fazit: Ambiente ist schön. Personal im ersten Moment nett. Kratzt man an der Oberfläche, dann wird klar, dass die Preise und die Qualität in einigen Punkten sehr weit...
