Four hungry friends assembled in Hamburg via Ireland, France, Berlin and Denmark and led by the hangry frog of the group, we happened upon the pappen in Happen Pappen. Upon arrival we made the sticky mistake of laying our hands on the tables which obviously hadn't been cleaned. Once we managed to pry our fingers off the tacky tables however, everything improved. The more technophobic Irish among my party took an immediate distaste to the QR code menus but the wonderful waitress soon put an ease to these concerns by providing us with the one and only English language menu that they had. This place is a real hygge hot spot for hot dates and we could tell there were a few other men pretending to love vegan food for the sake of their female companions. The plants were a lovely form of decoration, showing us what our food would be made of sort of like a seafood restaurant letting you choose your lobster from their aquarium. The seat we took by the window also allowed us to literally look down in judgement on all the disgusting meat eaters walking past outside. The ordering experience ending smoothly right as Britney Spears' "Toxic" came on, reminding us of exactly how we wouldn't feel after eating the healthy plant based food we had just ordered. Said food was served up rapidly, so much so that we were worried that the staff wanted us out. The food was delightful and came in substantial portions. One of the plates had a chip and not the type of chip one would expect to come with a burger but the crockery was stylish and we felt so cool eating plants in a hamburg window that we didn't care. We will be back again, maybe even tomorrow. Now, where's the...

We ordered a gluten-free club sandwich with tempeh and aioli and the dish of the day - a sweet potato curry with brown rice.
The food tasted fresh and delicious and was very nicely presented. The price was really fair!
The downside was that we had to wait about a half hour or more, and a couple who ordered after us had both their main dishes and dessert before we had any food at all.
For dessert we tried their chocolate cake with mousse and berries. We were quite full so couldn't finish everything, but it was really delightful and creamy and not too sweet or chocolate-y
The staff was friendly and spoke a little...
Read moreDon't let the look of the restaurant keep you from trying their vegan food. The space is small and appears cramped with the seating but the food is decent. The host and hostess are friendly and prompt. They offer choices of vegan burgers (conventional) and something called as burger bowl. The latter is basically a deconstructed version of burger sans the buns and served with a side and a large portion of salad. They also have a selection of hot/cold drinks and home made desserts. Just one point that may need extra work is WC. They could pay more attention to it's cleanliness....
