Ricebrothers Schanze — Restaurant in Hamburg

Really big restaurant, where a lot guests fit in. They seem to show sports events like soccer games on their flat screens. They try to be fusion so it's not 100% authentic Vietnamese food.

In detail:

My friends and I went to Ricebrothers on a Sunday evening at 5 pm ish. I'd say a quarter of the restaurants' tables were occupied.

I ordered the Bun Bowl (rice noodle salad, with lemongrass, spring onions, lettuce, bean sprouts & peanuts [sic!]) and chose their spring rolls as topping. The spring rolls were good and crispy, and the Nước chấm (dipping fish sauce) was the first one I've had in a long time where you could see chopped garlic and chili peppers. They could have added more lime or lemon juice. The dish was served with coriander, but that's about it. It lacked some more herbs like mint or perilla mint/fish mint, etc.).

Overall I wasn't too satisfied. If you're hungry you need an entree and a main course. But if you order both in addition to a drink it gets a bit pricey, which is totally fine, but in that case the food should be more special.

The restaurant is quite big, and it looks pretty. The bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible. The waitresses and waiters were nice, but the waiter seemed a bit distracted by the World Cup soccer game that was shown on one of their screens. So he didn't really notice there were new guests that...

typical modern western/asian fusion style place. modern interior and busy atmosphere.

food was mostly well executed, i guess solid 4 star for this price segment. the curry was a bit too sweet and creamy and lacking spices, prob not like something you’d see in vietnam.

menu is short and sweet with the usual fusion style dishes. bowls, rice bun burgers and of course curries and pho.

what really stood out to me was the service. despite an absolute packed out place upon arrival, they managed the number of customers very well and made us feel very welcome. extra points for the family...

Wir waren zu Besuch in Hamburg und wollten unbedingt mal Hot Pot ausprobieren. Da die Ricebrothers gute Rezensionen hatten, sind wir in das Restaurant auf der Schanze gegangen. Das Gute vorweg - die Bedienung an sich war sehr nett. Das Essen allerdings war nicht gut. die Brühe des Hot Pots wenig würzig. Wäre sicher würziger geworden, wenn wir die mit dazu ausgegebene Instant-Nudelsuppen verwendet hätten, für den Preis von 28 € pro Person kann man allerdings eine natürliche gute schmeckende Suppe erwarten. Die Zutaten waren reichlich, aber wie gesagt ohne eine würzige Brühe schmeckt es nicht. Es gab 4 kleine Schüsselchen mit Fertigsauce, die leider auch nicht zu einem besseren Geschmackserlebnis beigetragen haben. Natürlich blieb so sehr viel von rohem Hühnchen und Gemüse übrig. Wir hatten darum gebeten, ob man es für uns kurz anbraten könne, damit wir es in das Hotelzimmer mitnehmen könnten, da es ca. 1 1/2 Portionen waren, welche zu schade zum Wegschmeißen waren (hätten dann noch irgendwo eine gute Sauce gekauft). 1-2 Euro hätten wir auch gern für das Anbraten noch drauf bezahlt - aber der Koch wollte uns 5 Euro abknüpfen. Eine Frechheit! Zu erwähnen wäre noch, das etliche Cocktailtomaten auf dem rohen Hühnchenfleisch angerichtet waren. Aus hygienischer Sicht fragwürdig, denn wenn man entspannt beim Essen zusammen sitzt, könnte eine solche zum Rohverzehr geeignete Tomate ja auch gerne mal im Mund des Gastes landen. Und was auf rohem Hühnchen so alles an Bakterien sein kann, ist wohl bekannt… Ich kann dieses Restaurant weder geschmacklich noch vom Preis-Leistungsverhältnis empfehlen.
