Katik Karlsruhe — Restaurant in Karlsruhe

Here's the deal. This is more of a 3.5 rating than it is a 4 rating, therefore the 3. If you come here expecting a normal doner kebab, you will be squarely disappointed, but that's not to say that it's bad. In fact, the Katik kebab isn't bad at all flavour-wise. I had the chicken kebab, and I must say that the combination of vegetables and even chips is a good counter-balance to the honestly not very good meat. It's a good snack, even if it's a little overpriced for 8.50 for a normal one and 9.50 for a large one. However, don't make the mistake of ordering it for takeout. Every Katik kebab is delivered in not only a paper wrapper but also a plastic bag, and this plastic bag is elementary for the structural integrity of the whole sandwich. Seriously - by default, it's absolutely drenched in sauce. Now, that sauce isn't bad, but it is incredibly overpowering and gets everywhere. It also annoys me that the bag is plastic instead of paper, but then again, this is probably out of necessity so it doesn't completely drench everything you hold dear, made all the worse by the fact that viral marketing necessitates this trait as it's sold as the "juiciest kebab". I suppose it is, but that's not a good thing to me. The service is fine, although it's a little disappointing that they don't take credit cards. I was assured this would change, but for now, cash was my only option. the atmosphere is also quite bad, as it's just a takeout stand. The few tables they do offer are just... there, and apart from the napkins, nothing is themed. It's fine, it tastes okay, but it's not portable and a bit pricey. If the line is long and you can't get a table, I'd say...

Edit: I have noticed a reduction in quantity. This makes it less value for money. That's the reason I've reduced the rating. First things first, the taste is amazing. It has a unique flavor, that sets it apart from every other döner around. I do not understand the complaints in the other reviews. I feel they are exaggerated. Although as a student I feel it would be my go to döner if the price was a little lesser. It can get crowded at peak times but for me it's worth the wait. And it is located at a very accessible place as well. Seating is also well maintained in the limited area. I have noticed that they maintain cleanliness. Mehrere Hype-Videos hatte ich auf Instagram schon zum "Katik" in Karlsruhe gesehen und war sehr gespannt, da das dort alles sehr gut ausgesehen hat.

Service: Es ist in erster Linie Selbstbedienung. Die Organisation ist sehr gut gemacht. Man bestellt und bekommt dann ein Gerät das sich meldet, wenn die eigene Bestellung fertig ist. Solange kann man gemütlich am Tisch warten und steht sich nicht die Beine in den Bauch. Jeder der Mitarbeiter war freundlich, der Kontakt war aber recht kurz, daher kaum zu bewerten. Das Essen hat für Fast Food an diesem Tag recht lange gedauert, war aber noch im Rahmen. - 3/5

Essen: Ich war schon etwas überrascht, als ich am anderen Ende meines - nennen wir ihn mal Döner - eine Plastiktüte vorgefunden habe. Die hatte aber absolut ihre Daseinsberechtigung, da so viel Soße drin ist, dass diese nach dem ersten Bissen läuft wie verrückt. Selbst trotz der Tüte haben wir mehrere Servietten gebraucht um nicht komplett voller Soße zu sein. Normalerweise gehöre ich eher nicht zu den Menschen die übermäßig kleckern. Geschmacklich war die Soße okay, aber nicht mein Ding. Sehr tomatenlastig. Auch das Pommes in den "Döner" eingearbeitet sind brauche ich eher nicht (kann ich als Beilage bestellen). Zum Schluss hatte ich fast nur noch Matsch in der Hand, was mir etwas die Lust am Essen genommen hat. Auch lässt die Soße dem Hähnchenfleisch keine Luft. Das Fleisch geht zwischen der Soße und den Pommes unter. Manchmal ist weniger mehr und dieses Gefühl hatte ich an diesem Tag. Generell in Ordnung, aber mir ist ein guter, klassischer Döner dann doch lieber. - 3/5

Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis: Von der Menge her wird man satt. Der Preis für mein Menü mit Pommes liegt ungefähr auf dem Niveau eines Dönertellers. Grundsätzlich okay und reiht sich somit in die aktuelle Preissituation in der Gastronomie ein. - 4/5

Fazit: Man muss es mögen und eventuell auch mal probiert haben. Es scheint bei einigen Leuten gut anzukommen. Für mich war es aus den genannten Gründen kein Highlight. Das muss aber überhaupt nichts...
