⭐ 1/5 – “Tamil” by Name, North by Nature 🤦♂️
Don’t be fooled by the name, reviews, or ratings — we went expecting Tamil flavours and somehow landed in a parallel universe where “South Indian” means anything but South Indian. The waiter’s warmth could rival an iceberg. Apparently, Indian guests are a rare species here — table not even set, as if we gate-crashed the place. We ordered Mysore Bajji, Porotta with Salan, and Kothu Parotta. Sounds authentic, right? Wait for it… • The “Porotta” was not porotta at all — made with some mystery flour (I thought it was weizen, but a colleague there said it wasn’t). Either way, it was nowhere close to a real porotta and, to top it off, cooked in a tandoor! ☹️ • The Kothu Parotta was okay, but here’s the mystery: they had Malabar parotta for Kothu, yet served the tandoor-baked version as the regular Porotta. • Chicken Salan? Let’s just say it existed. The menu promised 3 parottas with curry — only 2 arrived, and the third one needed a gentle reminder (maybe it was still in tandoor school). Tried the Thali too — every curry was sweet enough to qualify as dessert, except the Palak Paneer and Veg Pulav, which were the only survivors.
And the grand finale? The beer and cola were the best part of the meal. 😂🍺🥤
To top it all off, after paying the bill, one of the restaurant staff even passed loose, unprofessional comments — an absolutely disappointing and unacceptable way to end an already bad...
Read moreI'm from South India. So, I know what is authentic Tamil cuisine. Thasy serves authentic delicious food. Their dosas (crispy rice pan cake), Idli (steamed rice cake), Vada (South Indian snack made of lentils), Sambar (smashed lentil curry with a mix of vegetables), chutnies (coconut and tomato) were really good. These are all vegan dishes. Very healthy for the stomach, yet delicious. If you are vegan, it's the best choice for healthy and tasty food.
For the other curries: I had mutton curry, chicken pepper roast, chicken chettinadu, kothuporotta and plain porotta too. All of them were so delicious and authentic. I didn't feel they compromised on the ingredients and their quality. This is what makes their food delicious.
I went to dine in alone multiple times. Their hospitality never disappoints me. The staff are all very nice and their services are also excellent.
They also have good offers for breakfast until 11:30 am everyday. Fresh dosas, idlis and vada in a combo offer.
If you are in Karlsruhe and crave Indian food whether it's vegetarian, vegan or non vegetarian, Thasy is the best place to go for it. The prices are affordable and your tummy will...
Read moreWe were a group of 11 visiting on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Although the online reviews were quite good, our experience was disappointing. The waiter had difficulty taking our order correctly — even though we tried communicating in Tamil, Hindi, English, and German. We had to repeat our order multiple times, and still ended up receiving incorrect dishes and extra items we never ordered.
The staff mentioned we would only be charged for what we ordered, but when the bill came, we were still charged for the additional food. To make matters worse, the waiter who served us was nowhere to be found, and we had to explain the whole situation again to a new person at the counter.
The food itself was quite average and did not live up to the positive reviews online. Overall, it was a...
