Das Wirtshaus was close to my hotel. I made a reservation but arrived late as I got lost in Kiel looking for the restaurant. When I arrived late at 8 PM, the waitress was very snippy and said that seating outdoors was closed for the day. Although the restaurant was open until 11 PM, the jaitress said that there were no tables available inside and that the restaurant was closing. In reality, closing time was 3 hours later at 11 PM. By then there were two other jaitresses by her side for lying support. She lied, was rude, bitter, unprofessional and didn't care about her restaurant or her guest.......................................In response to the owner's comments: Your public, Your guests are not responsible for your labor issues/concerns/problems. We are looking for a good meal at a fair price during publicly posted opening hours. We should in no way be involved in labor issues. You are very right. I would not listen. I am totally indifferent to your problems as a small business owner. That is neither the business of your guests nor their concern. Labor/Staffing issues are your problem, Mr. Owner. Your guests do not want to hear one word about it. You are the owner and as owner it is you who is SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR STAFFING ISSUES. I am confident that you have not yet realized that you need to carry trays yourself when confronted with a shortage of waiters/waitresses in order to make your guests happy and keep your business on course and afloat. Read moreWas gonna give 3 stars for the eternal waiting time + mediocre food, but how the waitress handled our critique changed my mind to just 1 star.
I can understand the long waiting time since it can be crowded at times, and on Monday, SOME Schnitzel cost only 12.9€. But we had several Schnitzel which weren't on that offer, and they still tasted horrible.
All the 3 Schnitzel we ordered were served with the sauce on top, which made them quite mushy. Two of us had Bratkartoffeln which were really oily and also mushy and slightly burnt. One of us got Steak Pommes which was quite good.
When the waitress came to collect the plates, she asked if we liked the food. As an honest feedback, we said "Not really, it'd be nicer if you serve the sauce separately". The appropriate response would be (in my opinion) "Noted, I'll pass that on to the chefs". But the waitress said "We've been doing this for 35 years and no one complained". That is no different than saying "You customers are stupid and have no idea what you are saying". If you don't want to hear criticism, why did you even ask us whether we liked the food?...

Dining at this traditional German restaurant was an absolute delight — not just for the taste buds, but for the soul. Cozy wooden tables, the soft glow of candlelight, and of course, a perfectly poured Erdinger wheat beer… everything whispered, “relax and enjoy.”
🍽️ The food? Outstanding! From crisp, fresh salads to perfectly cooked smoked meats and hearty, comforting classics — every dish was crafted with care and love for tradition. Even the smallest details, like the rustic wooden cutlery bucket, made the experience feel warm and thoughtful.
🍻 The Erdinger wheat beer was top-tier — smooth, aromatic, and served in a perfectly chilled glass. The ideal pairing for the rich, authentic flavors on the table.
😊 But the best part? The laughter, the atmosphere, and sharing it all with good company. This is what food should feel like: joyful, generous, and grounding.
