Konvent Café, Rösterei, Bäckerei — Restaurant in Lübeck

Our 3 star rating is on the harsher side, but that’s only because the cafe has a lot of potential.

It has a lovely atmosphere with a beautiful outdoor area, and nicely decorated inside - cakes on display, lots of greenery, and nice furnishings giving a cozy, yet modern and “industrial” style. The staff are open and friendly, and the service was slightly friendlier than I’m used to as an expat.

The coffee tastes good and is well prepared (although the foam on the milk resulted in that unfortunate case where it looks pretty with nice latte art, but separates the drink into foam on top, and watery consistence underneath - something which you don’t expect from a 3rd-wave coffee establishment).

Now for the food:

The avocado Stulle was fine. In my opinion, the amount of avocado and honey you get is slightly on the “stingy” side but all in all, it was fine.

The eggs Benedict was bizarre. If you’re not going to prepare a poached egg (tbf it was advertised as a sunny side up egg on the menu, although still unfortunate), at least give us an amount of hollandaise that doesn’t require a microscope to find it on the plate. Quite unfortunate for just under €10. Again, the taste was fine, but just not what you would expect from a new and stylish cafe like this.

The cinnamon roll was dry af. It tasted good but the ratio of dough to taste was way off.

Konvent Cafe is a great coffee roastery and bakery in Lübeck. The cafe has a cozy atmosphere and offers a wide selection of coffees and teas. I have also tried some of the baked goods and they were all delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They helped me choose the right coffee and also gave me some tips on how to prepare it. The food here was wonderful and very well presented. We sat outside beneath the trees and beside the old church which was very atmospheric but the experience was let down due to the very slow service. It took us a very long time to get the attention of a waiter to order our food. The food came pretty quickly but then we sat for another 15 minutes waiting to pay after I asked for our bill.
