Racists and normal food, wish I could give minus stars. Funny, the most obvious and racist experience in my travelling/living in over 30 countries and 6 years living in Germany was in a vietnamese restaurant! As soon as my friend and I (both asian faces)went inside, we noticed that the waitress was looking rather unhappy and impatient (well, maybe she was having a bad day, we thought, and being hungry and exhausted, we sat down and ordered). But when some german customers walked in, she quickly welcomed them with big sweet smile and full body language. Well, we were not going to be bothered if it was just that one waitress. But when we asked for the bill, same thing happened. Another lady (amusing the owner) was serving another table(Germans) next to us, all nice and sweet, when she was done, we asked her for the bill, she turned to us, and her face imediately dropped, and looked at us almost anoyyed and disgusted, and talked to us very coldly.(I asked for pay with card, she said only cash.) It was quite unplesant, and we could not think about another reason besides racism. To be clear, I was speaking german with them the whole time, so there was no "language issue" or whatever. I checked the negtive reviews from this restaurant, and I realised that they are almost all from asian customers. So I guess we are not the only ones that felt...
Read moreAfter wandering around the centre of Lubeck for an inexpensive place to eat, we stumbled upon this nondescript family run Thai reataurant after discounting another far trendier Thai place across the street. The menu was what you'd expect, and the prices seemed reasonable. What spoilt our enjoyment was being charged nearly 20 euros for 2 Coca-Cola zeros (40 cl) and 2 glasses of water. We weren't given unopened cans or bottles but served glasses instead. Unfortunately, the cokes had no fizz, nor could we tell if the water was bottled or tap water. When we paid the 71 euro bill for 4 main courses and drinks in cash, because yet again Germán establishments don't take visa to avoid paying commission, we didn't have any cash left to even leave a tip. Not that we planned to anyway. You should have seen the owner's face drop from all smiles to burning rage when she realised she wasn't getting anything extra! She didn't even say goodbye! Although the food was good, her reaction and the drinks scandal spoiled...
Read moreI was here a few days ago with a friend for lunch. Personally, I haven't been to a lot of vietnamese restaurants in my life, maybe around five times and three of them are in Lübeck. And so far, this one is the best out all of them. I'm Asian myself and I do get really critical when it comes to recommending asian restaurants. If I think I can cook the food by myself, then I won't recommend it.
The food was delicious, made from fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was chill and nice, not really crowded. I ordered some garlic chicken (I forgot what it's called) and vietnamese ice coffee with condensed milk (we used to drink coffee like this too back in Indonesia) Not very healthy but it does the job when you need that caffeine. A bowl of Peking soup came with the order if you ordered from their Mittagstisch menu. Fair price for the portion. I hardly could breathe after finishing my food (or maybe it's just me).
A very nice experience overall. Looking forward to eat here...
