D'ITALY Ristorante & Pizzeria — Restaurant in Leipzig

I didn’t sit outside, so the service felt disorganized and inconsistent. Still, I appreciate that eventually a waiter took care of things. I was served some bread at the beginning, but there were no plates, cutlery, or olive oil and vinegar. About ten minutes later, another waiter brought the missing items. The lighting inside was extremely dim—not enough to properly see my food. The table lamp wasn’t working, and the ambient lighting in the dining room was also insufficient. I started wondering—maybe that’s why everyone chooses to sit outside? Eventually, a staff member brought me a bright lamp, so I no longer had to dine under medieval conditions. It was very hot inside, or at least where I was seated. There was no ventilation, and I was sweating throughout the meal. I asked if the window could be opened, but the waiter said they didn’t have the special key. She mentioned that a table outside had become available and I could move, but I was nearly finished and didn’t feel like relocating. I ordered two dishes: an octopus salad and a tomato-based pasta with mussels and clams. The difference in quality was dramatic—are these even from the same kitchen? The octopus salad was fresh, flavorful, and really enjoyable. But the pasta was full of sand—I was chewing grit with every bite. Thankfully, my teeth are strong enough. Also, the tomatoes and shellfish felt like they were doing their own thing, with no real harmony between them. They didn’t come across as good partners on the plate. I found this restaurant to be unique in Leipzig in so far as the cooks, staff and waiters are all from Italy and the food is prepared using only the freshest ingredients. The few times I have eaten there now I can say the food tastes just like if I were dining in a fine restaurant in Italy. My litmus test for fine Italian food is the spaghetti con Aglio, Olio E Peperoncino dish. It might be a simple recipe but the art and way it is prepared and presented at the table tells you much about the cook and Italian way of making this dish. I find that at D‘Italy restaurant everything from this dish to the antipasta , meat, fish, oven fresh pizzas and chef’s specials is fresh and delicious tasting. Es passiert so gut wie nie, dass ich 5 Sterne gebe, aber dieses italienische Restaurant hat es wirklich verdient! Gleich vorab: ich empfehle euch unbedingt eine Reservierung vorab, denn das Lokal scheint wirklich extrem beliebt zu sein, gestern beispielsweise waren sie ausgebucht (wir hatten zum Glück reserviert!)

Das Restaurant ist wirklich gemütlich. Es gibt sowohl die Möglichkeit draußen, aber auch drinnen zu essen. Trotz der Tatsache, dass doch einige Tische in dem Hauptraum sind, hat man das Gefühl einen eigenen Space für sich zu haben, in dem einen niemand stört. Das liegt auch daran, dass die Kellner nach Möglichkeit darauf achten, zwischen den einzelnen Gästen ausreichend Tische freilassen, eben damit man nicht gegenseitig die Gespräche der anderen Gäste aufschnappen muss. Auch die Kellner sprechen angenehm ruhig und leise, was ebenfalls zu einer heimeligen Atmosphäre beiträgt. Wenn es Abend wird, bringen die Kellner kleine Lämpchen an die Tische, die man selber in der Helligkeit einstellen kann. An den Wänden hängen vereinzelt Bilder in schwarz-weiß von Frauen, die italienisches Essen verzehren.

Die Portionen haben eine perfekte Menge. Man wird gut satt, platzt aber auch nicht nach dem Verzehr. Ich hatte Spaghetti Carbonara. Und sie waren sooo lecker. Der Speck war on point gebraten, richtig knusprig und hat geschmacklich hervorragend zur restlichen Mischung gepasst. Hier wird die Carbonara noch hergestellt, wie es in Italien üblich ist: mit einer Ei-Käse-Mischung - von Sahnesoße keine Spur! Das ist nicht selbstverständlich, aber umso genialer, dass es hier klappt!

Die Cremé Brulee hat mir von der Konsistenz her leider nicht so gut gefallen. Aber das ist ja bei jedem anders. Auf alle Fälle wurde die Zuckerschicht richtig frisch gebrannt und war unglaublich knusprig und lecker.

Der Kellner war sehr motiviert und hat wirklich alles getan, damit wir uns wohlfühlen. Wir mussten nie lange warten, wenn wir eine Frage oder noch einen Bestellwunsch hatten, er ist immer von selber gekommen, ohne dabei aufdringlich zu sein. Ich kann einen Besuch bei D italy wirklich wärmstens empfehlen und komme auf alle...
