We spent a week in Lübeck, and Kartoffelkeller was hands down our favorite restaurant! The food is great! We tried a number of dishes, and I will present some below.
The "7 Kräuter - 7 Türme" (seven spices, seven towers) is an excellent cured pork dish with potato dumplings. The dumplings were just potato on our first visit, while green due to a lot of parsley on a subsequent visit. The meat cuts also differed slightly in thickness, but both thin, and thick cuts were equally delicious!
The potatoes au gratin with ham and broccoli was first of all tasty! It's a large au gratin, something that could be split if you'd like. It is also rich, creamy, cheesey, and very filling. If you love potatoes au gratin, these should not disappoint!
The three matjes-style herring filets made homecooked style with an sauce of sour cream, apples, onions, and cucumbers was a treat! In Sweden soused herring is almost exclusively served with boiled potatoes, but the pairing with the skillet fried potatoes mixed with onions, and bacon was incredible!
Their very own namesake dish, the Kartoffel-Keller-Pfanne makes my mouth water to think about. It features juicy pork loin slices, nicely carmelized. Served with those amazing bacon and onion fried potatoes, and a bunch of cooked vegetables with bearnaise sauce. Everything topped with a sunny side up egg.
Their potato waffles are their signature dessert. The have the texture of freshly made donuts, and are very rich. You receive a plate of three, so they are perfect for sharing.
I hope that you'll end up liking the restaurant as much as we did. I can hardly wait to...

The service staff are really nice even though they cant really speak in English. The pan fish was simply divine! The fish was fresh and silky paired with chunky mash potato. The vegetables on the top add a nice freshness to cut through the heaviness of the creamy sauce and oily fish.
Also ordered herring with potato pancakes. The pancakes were good but really heavy, so it works well with the pickles and other pickled vegetables.
The dark beer was really good! Very light with a hint of caramel and malt notes at the end - the aftertaste was a lot like rooibos. If you like beer but you arent a fan of the bitterness, this is a great choice!
Overall a great experience,...
