The coffee, food, staff - all fine, friendly etc. However, I have some questions regarding the concept of this cafe. Creating a space in which the colonial era is glorified, and different cultures othered as "exotic" and "oriental" seems to transmit the message that exploitation was not present at the time and that it was all rosy and "the good old times". Particularly regarding import/export of goods (coffee included), labour, cultural artifacts etc. I understand a cafe does not hold the same responsibility as for example a museum, but this cafe explicitly wants to act as a place of historical remembrance. More reflexivity and critical discourse would really benefit this space, as even on the website the concept description falls flat. There is so much potential for spaces like these to also contribute to our cultural imagination and remembrance of history in a much more nuanced way, to also serve as places of exchange. Perhaps some books in the cafe to read on colonialism, history of trade, etc,...

But the personnel we had had me thinking about giving only one star. Place was at 30% capacity, still we waited and waited and waited. We even told the young lady that we want to order, and still nothing happened. In the mean time guest from the neighboring table left, unserved. Then I went to the counter to order. I asked the serving lady what the differences between Turkish, Greek, Croatian and Oriental Mokka are, but got no usable answer. Well, I then went on and took a “safe” choice, Americano, and for my wife a Latte Macchiato. Apart from the fact that they didn’t arrive any time soon, and we had to ask again for them, they tasted very good. So, this place has potential. Reading the other reviews, maybe we they just had one...
