We spent some lovely time at Künstler’s Wine Bar, tucked into the Johannisplatz corner of Haidhausen. I wandered down and got a couple of shots of the nearby church, came back and settled in at one of the outside tables.
The waitress spoke English and looked after us well. The staff here know their wine list well and we immediately knew we were getting a Flammkuchen, and I wanted to try a Riesling and a Pinot Noir.
The Flammkuchen Classic, a thin wafer-thin dough, with bacon and spring onions - we sort of got addicted to these while we were in Germany. Once we were told if you didn’t know what you feel like, this is what you get - they fast became what we felt like.
We also got some cured meats to pair with our wines and used the time to reflect on our holiday and plan our last bit of time in Munich.
As we left we grabbed a couple of bottles to take home with us - and learned a little bit more from the staff about the wines, reinforcing I had made a good choice. I’m sure they say that to everyone who buys something, but they were authentic and friendly and knowledgeable regardless.

We came here on a cold winter evening, expecting to stay for a couple of drinks and then run off to dinner. Instead, we stayed for many glasses of wine and a full meal. The wait staff was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, and very accommodating to speaking English. They recommended delicious wine for us when we asked.
The food was also very good. The star of the show was the pumpkin/squash flammkuchen with honey. We shared that between two people and it was a little light, but we left very happy. The mousse au chocolat was also quite tasty.

Read moreGood wine and nice decor. Unfortunately I was immediately put off my food when I saw the male server licking his fingers when I entered the restaurant, and I then saw him on two occasions wiping sweat off his forehead/hair. I was fully aware he was the person preparing food. I couldn't eat my cheese board or flatbread in comfort after seeing this. Also, service was a little slow. The male and female waiters seemed more interested in socialising with their friends who were sat at the restaurant as opposed to serving...
