We used to be fans of this local Japanese restaurant & have dined here many times. It's popular due their great food quality & yes, it's often hard to get a table because it is a small restaurant. The service unfortunately is terrible (unfriendly & slow). In the past we just laughed about it as we like the food however our recent experience has left us with a bad taste in our mouths. My partner & I were told to sit at the big table of 6 by the sushi chef because there were no tables for two available. We ordered our food then moments later a group of three diners sat at the same table which we were happy to share. We were then moved to a table of two. A few dishes that we ordered arrived soon after however, after an hour waiting for the remaining dishes to arrive, we suspected they went to the other table & the waitress confirmed they did. Note: we were informed this AFTER we asked. The waiter lost her piece of paper with our orders & asked us to tell her again the dishes that were missing. My partner forgot to mention one dish & when I finally got her attention again to tell her, we were informed we couldn't have it because the kitchen is closed! No apologies, no compensation offer, NOTHING. The staff struggled to speak Deutsch well, which made the situation even more frustrating as we tried to explain why we were obviously upset. I was also hungry & was really looking forward to that dish! We will now look elsewhere for...
Read moreI think this is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Munich because it offers more than just sushi and there's not Vietnamese food mixed into the menu (I think many "Japanese" restaurants are owned by Vietnamese that are trying to make Asian fusion or something). The vibe I felt when I entered was very Japanese and I think all the Japanese locals visit here often. I ordered the sashimi platter and it's very a fresh and good quality selection of fish. The teriyaki salmon with rice is also very delicious and flavorful. I just wish the portion was bigger because I was satisfied but not full. Well sashimi isn't supposed to be filling but the teriyaki salmon could be bigger. Next time I'd like to try the karaage, Japanese...
Read moreWe had heard good things but Mitani is decidedly mediocre. When we arrived (with a reservation) the man behind the sushi bar--presumably the namesake owner--grunted at us wordlessly, gestured vaguely towards a table, and went back to what he was doing. Service was extremely slow: 20 minutes just to get a drink, then another 20 to order food. We would have ordered another round or two of drinks, but the waitress never bothered to come by again. Food was fine, but nothing at all special, especially for the price. We had to ask for the check three times over the course of half an hour. There are plenty of great Japanese restaurants in...
