My husband and I live up the street from Spicery and order takeout here quite a lot. When the food is good, its amazing. But unfortunately the food is incredible inconsistent. We typically order curry and you never know what you are going to get. Often it will have incredibly raw/ under cooked vegetables. Often times we will get the food home and our take out boxes will have a couple centimetres of grease floating at the top. We have kept visiting because when the curry is good, its amazing. But that is rare. The shop opened for the first time since the lock down this past Monday. I have been excited to eat here, and we ordered our usual for takeout tonight. When I opened my curry my box of yellow curry was half empty while my husbands panang curry box was full to the brim. On top of that ALL of the vegetables in my curry are totally raw. The broccoli, the onions, the peppers even the zucchini which is the easiest to ensure is cooked. You would think for the price of what they charge that this establishment would at least ensure your food is edible and consistent. I am not sure if we will be visiting this restaurant any more which is a shame. We used to order here at least once a week. But if you can't promise the food I am going to get will be good why even bother...
Read moreDo not order any of the duck dishes on the menu! Completely inedible, does not taste fresh, and the meat was so dry and stringy. One of the worst duck I've ever tasted in my life, and trust me I eat and have eaten a lot of duck in my lifetime. We informed the waitress about it, and the response from the manager was essentially "that's just how it is"... so clearly they acknowledge and know the duck tastes horrible and still choose to serve it like that to their customers! For a place that looks and feels higher end, with prices that reflect this (the dishes with duck are more expensive too), their customer service absolutely does not match. The manager did not even offer any sort of compromise or solution, e.g. offer to replace the duck with a different meat instead.
It's really a shame because the other food (fresh rolls, pad thai, red curry sauce) tasted good, but after this experience I would never return here and would never recommend this...
Read more"Spicery" is an upscale Thai/fusion restaurant, and it definitely reflects in its chic interior ambience and its very ambitious prices.
The food was beautifully decorated, but overall nothing special. It didn't help that my Thai curry came lukewarm... probably it had been sitting for a while, which might square with the half-hour wait between appetizers and main course. Contrary to what the menu indicated, my dish was not spicy at all, albeit tasty. Several of us had a bit of a bellyache right after finishing; I can only speculate as to why (artificial additives? the long cooling period? ...)
The service did not live up to the restaurant's claim. The waiters seemed quite overwhelmed, although it was only mid-week. They had no clue about the table reservation; we were not given chop sticks even upon asking; and a request to take a photo of the birthday party's group was......
