Writing a review after visiting thrice within a month. Food taste is authentic. A small tip for people not belonging to South of India, please do a quick Google search with term "south indian dishes" and order anything from the top six dishes so you won't be disappointed (Also attached a screenshot). Better avoid anything other than South Indian food. Ambience is modern and similar to restuarants in Chennai. No sarees tied around walls and no unnecessary statues placed around randomly. Service is respectable, unusually fast for Munich standards but usually our drinks are only one out of the three, namely Madras filter coffee or indian tea or still water so nothing to think, and its comfortable to readily order too. Its possible to order a fizzy drink or a beer but that's not what we do back in town. Reserving a table is not an option which is a down side as much as it is a postive thing. Wait time was not insane but so far simply like 5 to 10 minutes even on a sunny weekend evening. But still I pity few unlucky fellow customers who experienced long wait time. Finally, if you know what to order and if you have an idea about South Indian food and restuarants then you will have a great experience. Basically, I believe even the Saravanaa Bhavan branches back in Chennai have bad chinese veg fried rice and a bad roti+curry combo. Food suggestions to order - Masala dosa, Ghee roast, Sambar mini idli, Medhu vada, south indian meals, oothappam.

This is such original Indian food place, ATTENTION please!!! It’s local Indian food, NOT German Indian food, ok? It’s only vegetarian, and even it is not written on menu, most of the food are spicy, you definitely need to ask the staffs to confirm it. We are 4 people and we had dosa, 4 of them were spicy lol we didn’t expect but they were very good food. Good price and good amount, enough to feel satisfied but not like super full. For the the people who want to visit this place, here are some notes that you need to know: 1)Most of the Staffs are only speak English. 2) They don’t accept table bookings, better go early to take a place, it will be pretty full after 7p.m. 3) The dosa on menu are not all available, must ask the stuffs 4)Food could be spicy and not written on menu!!!!!!! 5) Please don’t expect this is a place for fine dining, or like any other Indian restaurant in the Munich, it is NOT!! It’s noisy and crowded, very “Indian” like in real India 6) Definitely not the place for “schickimicki” people( I guess those are the people who gave bad reviews here) I’m giving them 4 stars, because of the price and the food quality, however clearness can be improved. Also they messed up one of our drink order. But overall, if you want to try typical Indian food, not always eating so called German Indian food chicken tikka or mango duck, totally recommend it!!

I was really excited to visit this place as I was craving for proper South Indian food and Saravana Bhavan chain is known for it and the one in Frankfurt gave us a pretty good experience. But sadly, the Munich branch was a disappointment. All started from the time we entered. There was confusion among the waiters as one waiter asked if we had reservation and before we could even reply he walked away handing over us to another waitress. Left us pretty clueless and it reeked a bit of rudeness. The waitress was polite and showed us to our table . We just sat and got our menus handed to us and just a minute later, the other waiter comes asking us for our order. Let us atleast look at the menu! After 5 minutes we gave our order to the waitress. We had ordered Gobi 65, Mysore Masala Dosa and Onion Utthapam. The Masala Dosa was served within no time. Good? No! It was a bit cold and very soggy like it was kept to wait for sometime. But atleast was lukewarm and tasted good (Dosa, masala and the white coconut chutney) The green chutney and the tomato chutney are not that great. The Onion Utthapam came sometime after the Masala Dosa and this tasted good ( same comments about the chutneys) After this we waited for almost 20 minutes for our Gobi 65 and it never came. Then the waitress came to ask of we want to order anything and when we said we had ordered Gobi 65, we found out that she had not taken that dish order in her tab at all ( Simple mistakes like this happens to everyone and she sweetly apologized , so it's okay). So we ordered the Gobi 65 again and she said that it is more like a pakoda and if you want Gobi Manchurian then you can order the Manchurian. Apparently there are 3 types of Manchurian. Dry, semi gravy and gravy. We were told that the gravy does not have a good review so we ordered Semi gravy. (The waitress told us to give feedback later about this dish). This came with a bowl of rice! And this dish is why I mainly decided to write this long review. The most bad smelling dish with no taste ever. It literally smelt like rotten cauliflower. And we tried eating it because we are paying almost 9€ to it. But at one point, we couldn't eat it all. Two people couldn't finish even half of that dish. And when it came to the billing part, there was literally no one that we could reach out to ask for the bill. Had to wait for sometime. And the waiter from the door came to us with the bill and we left. (The difference in treatment between Indian and Non Indians by few staff is clearly shown in the hospitality. Though no one was harsh, you can still feel the difference. I guess if the food was good, this would have gone unnoticed. But if I'm writing a review, might as well put it out there about this) And the waitress who asked for our feedback, she was really busy tending other tables so we couldn't really give our feedback about the Manchurian but Hey! If you are reading this, just so you know , it was one of the most horrible dishes I have ever eaten! I'll probably stick to eating South Indian dishes in Saravana Bhavan (Which was also okayish in this branch) PS: I am a South Indian so I know my dosas and chutneys :D

Did not taste as good as it looks 😒 and please dont visit on weekends. Too crowded and that tiny kitchen couldnt handle the expectation filled large crowd. Only the "white coconut chutney" and the dosa tasted good. The saravana Bhavan reputation is not well kept here.. This could be named Dosa Kadai.. even the "mint chutney" they offered was awful (prepared with dry mint or preserved mint) made me puke 😪 The "Tomato curry" that was given with Dosa's was a concoction of tomato onion and cornstarch slurry 😭😭😭 Sambar was a No comment 🤕 (dai sambar la Dal kaanum ??? (En kinaru eh kaanum- Vadivelu comedy Moment)) And my 5 year old ordered for a "Rava Kesari" and it only had hell lotta oil (not a drop of ghee), rava, sugar, food color ( no kesar nor cardamom flavour). Even my son mentioned not to try that dish here again.🤢 Do not order "Parotta curry- its just frozen parotta and the same kuruma that we had we channa batura and a cup of Potato Masal which was already given with Masal Dosa. (I remember days when I mix match leftovers and make a meal outta it🤭 only mom's can relate) Then here comes the important dish "SWEET LASI" it was like leftove yoghurt left in the refrigerator for a few days with a open container where the smell or other food is infused.🤢 and [[The Manager asked me why dint you finish your glass and I asked him if he was an Indian and have he ever tasted sweet Lasi before. And he did taste it and he returned my 3Euro. I wish he could have asked me how was the whole meal and he could have returned 50% of the meal price..]] my pity Husband spent 65 above euro on this PATHETIC EXPECTATION OF OURS. Atleast for the sake of keeping up South Indian's Expectation and Reputation👍 (i saw so many Germans standing in the long queue and so many filled inside the Restaurant. I felt pity), I Hope they can improvise and so I can visit every weekend 🙏 😌

Edit: 10 months later saravanaa bhavan manages to disappoint in innovative ways. The reason for visiting on weekends in the evening is to try out weekend specific dishes - masala vada, Adai aviyal, etc. If you don't can't provide them why have them on the menu! And when asked, the waiter says they just stopped making it?!?! Suggestion was to take the special meals- I don't to eat a heavy full meal with rice, poriyal for dinner, are you kidding me? The last time I visited, Kadai paneer was good. This time it was shockingly bad! It was a tumeric gravy and did not have the distinct tomato-cashew gravy base. I kept biting into bits of pepper and saunf and it was so irritating. Can't you get your gravy right?! These only saving grace was sambar vada. I don't know what your are doing Saravanaa Bhavan. ----------------------------- I ordered sambar vada, Kadai panneer Punjabi and pav bhaji dosa. Sambar vada and Kadai panneer Punjabi were great. Typical, no complaints. Pav bhaji dosa was, I'm sorry to say, pathetic. Onions and tomatoes sautéed in ketchup sauce is not "bhaji". I've attached the picture of the the stuffing in the dosa. I don't know, maybe this is intentional. Please do your research. Indian population is growing in Germany, you can't just get away with throwing a bunch of things together and getting away with it. Being a South Indian, I know HSB. You are better than this. Buck up!!

We went for a Friday dinner with family. It was super crowded. The place looked super cramped with no space for kinderwagen. The owner was standing outside and alloting places according to number of seats available at the moment. There were 3 of us plus baby in bassinet. He said kjnderwagen is usually not allowed but as its a baby so he called us in early on and was kind enough to rearrange some tables to give us a bigger place. :) . I think a bigger section inside was closed so the space was all the more limited. But the food which we ordered was good, so no complains overall. Hubby ordered idli , which was okay'ish not as fresh as a morning breakfast idli would.have been. We also ordered rava masala dosa and paper dosa. The dosa s were super nice n crispy n fresh. I am from the northern india so making perfect dosa s is a dream for me, but I definitely have Eaten a lot of dosas in the south and it's one of my favorite dishes. I really loved the dosas. The chutneys were good..sambar was okay..not the best. .but as I said for a person who doesn't make these things at home. It was great!! Service was a little slow for dosas (obvious reasons..it was peak time) , but other dishes like. Idli and dal fry rice arrived very fast.
