This restaurant left me with mixed feeling. The good news is that the waitress was perfect in every respect and when I discussed the star rating with my wife, it was her who pushed the review to four stars.
The food is traditional "Franconian" (Fränkisch), but was a mixed bag in my mind.
My wife had "Rinderschmorbraten" (Beef Pot Roast) and was very happy with her choice, while I had 6 Nürnberger Bratwürste (Nuremberg Sausages) with Sauerkraut and was very disappointed.
To me the sausages were too fatty (cooked in a pan) and lacked the typical aroma I have come to associate with Nürnberger Bratwürste. The Sauerkraut also left a lot to be desired and I joked to my wife that they should have opened a can of Mildessa Sauerkraut instead. It is kind of sad if you prefer the canned product over what is served in a restaurant.
However, having said all that, it wasn't bad. It was good enough to justify the price and my daughter liked her "Schnitzel Wiener Art" (Pork) with French Fries, however my youngest, who had 6 Nuremberg Sausages of her own (without the Sauerkraut) seemed to have agreed with me.
So what to say? Well you get very friend, child friendly service in a traditional Franconian restaurant with food, which qualifies as satisfactory to really quite good. Seems to warrant...
Read moreI went there with two friends and the food was the worst we ever had. The schnitzel was dry, the fish deepfried and dry as well. The schäufele was dry, not tender at all, the dumpling was not self made and sprinkled with Dill for reasons unknown and the sauce was just a watery black mess that tasted like something burned and got diluted with water. The three slices of raw carrot and the sweet and overcooked sauerkraut didn't help either... The service messed up the beer we ordered twice and didn't speak proper german or english. They were friendly but communication was a bit difficult. If you look for a place to eat and end up here turn around and ask for the restaurant "die hüttn". It's not far and superior in...
