Marple and Stringer — Restaurant in Regensburg

My partner is a vegetarian and was served a beef patty.

I ordered the Petty Melt Burger, which has a beef patty, with a side of fries, and my partner ordered the Vegetarian Butcher Burger with a side of Hush Puppies. When the burgers came out, the dishes were given to us according to the side we ordered. About halfway through, I took a bite of her burger because I was suspicious, and we confirmed she had been eating meat. It’s not that the plates were given to the wrong person, but the order itself got mixed up.

To make it worse, the staff simply offered to make us new burgers and did not apologize. I don’t think they realized the weight of what they had done. When they brought us new burgers, we were too full to start a big new one and the mood was ruined anyway. We got them packed up, paid and left.

They wanted to charge us full price, but gave us one dish free only because we asked.

On the way out the worker at the bar finally said sorry, but as we went out the door, the waiter who took our order was smoking a cigarette and we had to walk right by him. He didn’t say anything to us, and when we looked at him, he avoided eye contact.

It’s one thing that the mistake was made, but how it was handled afterwards was so dissatisfying.

This 4,6 score it's a bit high compared with the experience lived in this restaurant. The very dim light inside, doesn't allow you to read the menu or to see what exactly you got on your plate. The meat from the burger was cold with a dubious taste, the cheese was dry on the edges but with a lot of salad. The fried potatoes was really expensive because that's all I managed to eat for 12,9 euros. If I hadn't seen two waitresses dressed in oversize pullover serving the tables I wouldn't realise that they work there, they look like customers. Marple and Stringer = keine Kopie!

Selbst als langjähriger „Regensburger“ kann es passieren, dass man noch nie vom Marple and Stringer gehört hat, obwohl man sich bestimmt jeden Sommer auf dem Bismarckplatz herumtreibt und hier auch das ein oder andere alkoholische Erfrischungsgetränk zu sich nimmt. Doch ist es absolut lohnenswert sich einmal über den Zebrastreifen direkt durch den kleinen unauffälligen Eingang direkt ins Lokal zu wagen.

Innen empfängt euch ein uriges Interieur mit viel dunklem Holz und einer braunen Ledercouch im Barbereich. Zugegeben, es kann schon etwas enger zugehen wenn viel los ist, aber vor Corona war das für uns doch völlig normal oder?

Nach diversen Besuchen und probieren von etwa einem halben Dutzend der Burgern muss ich wirklich ein großes Lob aussprechen.

Die Zutaten wirken auf mich sehr hochwertig, das Restaurant verspricht Biofleisch-Qualität und handgemachte Briochebuns, sowie Limonaden und den legendären „Snakebite“-Cider. An Belag wird auf den Burgern auch nicht gespart und zu den Pommes oder den exotischen Hush Puppies (Kroketten mit Cheddar und Basilikum) gibt es zusätzlich zwei verschiedene Dips. Daher stimmt hier auch das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis absolut.

Noch zum Service; wir wurden immer sehr freundlich bedient. Auch die Nachfragen ob alles geschmeckt hat wirken hier nicht nur aufgesetzt, sondern aufrichtig. „Kritikfähigkeit ist der Schlüssel zum Perfektionismus“ und wenn es einmal nicht ganz passt tut es auch mal...
