Went for a 2-person dinner - pleasant service, somewhat disappointing ambience, mediocre food (adjusting for the Michelin stars and the price).
The service was what you usually get from similar restaurants - nice and pleasant staff, making sure to be attentive without being overly present, the chef making a round through the tables, small compliments to start and end the dinner.
The restaurant is on the second floor of a hotel on the Bodensee promenade which seemed promising. Unfortunately our table was at a terrace corner where you couldn't even get a glimpse of the lake as you were crowded by a tree an arm's length away, you couldn't escape the smell of fish coming from the hotel restaurant on the floor below, and the least fun part, you couldn't escape any outside noise, which on our visit happened to be so bad that it bothered multiple tables (the worst offender being the thumping bass of what sounded like mini-Coachella happening somewhere nearby). An annoying little detail is that this was also one of the very few Michelin-starred restaurants in the region, where parking is not taken care of.
The menu is not really customizable (no a-la-carte, no allergen avoidance), which is acceptable. Unfortunately it is also served in a non-flexible way, so you might end up staying a bit too long or waiting a bit too much between courses, especially if you happen to mostly skip some that you didn't find to your liking. In our case a couple of servings fit that bill with texture, acidity, and overpowering focus on umami being the main reasons.
Overall, we probably had bad luck with the noise, but even without it, there are multiple available 2-star alternatives within an hour drive that we find preferable (Zum Schäfli, Mammertsberg, The...
Read moreThis place is a disgrace to the Michelin Guide. Our experience was dreadful, a sharp contrast to every other Michelin-starred restaurant we’ve visited (let alone a two-star).
“Local” produce included Australian truffles, clearly reheated (!) bread from a local yet nameless bakery, and butter with no origin (how did it earn the place on the table?) . None of it showcased the restaurant itself. The food lacked character - so generic that the protein (pigeon or wagyu) could have been swapped without affecting the dish. That’s mediocrity at its finest.
The non-alcoholic pairing was an expensive embarrassment, not only failing to complement the food but actively clashing with it. One dessert was barely edible after minutes, dominated by strong alcohol - never listed as an ingredient, and never flagged despite the non-alcoholic pairing.
Service was the weakest point. No introductions, no engagement, no professionalism. When we raised issues with the pairing, our untouched drinks were taken away, yet we were still charged. After protest, the staff argued, dismissed us, and only after pressure did a nameless manager silently swap the receipt. No apology. No words. Nothing.
False advertising on local produce. Bad food (at this supposed level). Unacceptable pairings. Abysmal service. Tourist-trap behavior. Yes, the sauces were good, but that’s not enough.
The worst part: these complaints have long appeared in Google reviews. This is not an outlier. Michelin inspectors saw the same things - and still awarded two stars. That’s shameful.
This isn’t two stars. It’s minus two. Worth a detour only to avoid.
Shame on you, German...
Read moreTerrible service, maybe they had service staff on sick leave, we dont know, but even compared to a normal restaurant. We were 4 people there, 2 of us speaks very good german. We were first set down outside and after 10 minutes of waiting a waitress came to us to ask, which part of the menu do we want to take as extra, without explaining any of the context. One of us ordered champaign, which came without any bubbles. After we were moved inside we ordered a bottle of wine, but i told i will drink only 1 glass, because i must still drive, still the waitress wanted to pour me more 4 times , even though i always told her no, because i will drive. As 1 of us speaks only english, we asked if they can also tell us on english, then the next 3 rounds were only on english… as we did not order any extra, in the middle we waited 30 minutes, until the other table eat their extra round, without communicating anything. at the end we wanted to order some more wine in glass, which we told and received the card, to realise after some minutes, it has only bottle ones, none in glass. After we paid, the waitress left the table and didnt even say good bye. After 5 minutes we just stood up and went home. Sadly the food was also not a special one. This was not our first visit to a Michelin star restaurant,...
