Meera Indisch-Asiatisches Restaurant — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Konstanz

Speaking as a native Indian, the food was not up to the expectation Despite the glorification of the restaurant on google (reviews) and other websites, it did not live up to the hype.

The food in itself was not authentic Indian to begin with. Moreover DO NOT BE FOOLED by the spice rating mentioned on the menu. It is no where close to being spicy, rather all the curries were sweet and flavourless.

The waiter (perhaps the manager) did not make us feel welcomed and was kinda ignorant to what we had to say. Despite trying to create a bond with the waiter through multiple efforts of talking in our native language (after hearing him talk to his staff in Hindi) he seemed clueless and was not ready to respond back in the same language. This was however not a biggie, but just had to bring it up as the food was tasteless and the server was partial towards us compared to other customers.

The cherry on the top is the exorbitant prices! I would never recommend this place to anyone expecting to eat quality or just “Indian” food...

Dreist reingelegt

Um einen besonderen Anlass zu feiern, habe ich vor Ort angerufen und explizit angemerkt, dass ich den schönen Platz draußen am Balkon reservieren möchte. Ich wurde gefragt, welche Uhrzeit mir dafür am liebsten wäre, worauf ich 19.00 Uhr antwortete. Der Mann am Telefon informierte mich, dass Balkontische erst um 19.30 Uhr wieder frei wären. Ich sagte für diese Uhrzeit zu und jubelte am Telefon voller Vorfreude auf den Balkonplatz in der schönen Konstanzer Altstadt mit toller Aussicht. Ich wurde nach meinem Namen gefragt und dachte, es wäre alles geklärt.

Angekommen im Restaurant sah ich, dass alle Balkonplätze bereits besetzt waren. Einer der Bedienungen kam auf mich zu und ich sagte ihm, dass ich den Balkonplatz reserviert habe. Der Kellner meinte mit einem Grinsen, dass ich nicht reserviert habe. Daraufhin antwortete ich, dass ich auf meinen Vornamen um 19.30 Uhr garantiert reserviert habe. Er meinte dann doch, dass er einen Tisch für mich reserviert hat, aber nicht am Balkon. Im hintersten Winkel neben dem offenen Stromkasten (!) auf der einen Seite und der Küchentür, wo ständig das Personal hinein- und hinauslief, auf der anderen Seite platzierte er uns. Von einem Reservierungsschild keine Spur.

Ich war sehr enttäuscht und fühlte mich ehrlich gesagt verarscht. Wir bestellten daraufhin eine Kleinigkeit. Das Essen hat gepasst, aber als ich einem Kellner sagte, dass ich bezahlen möchte, nahm er das zur Kenntnis, nickte und ließ mich über eine halbe Stunde warten. Und das obwohl unser Platz für das Personal nicht zu übersehen war. Als wir zusammenpackten, um selbstständig jemanden für die Rechnung aufzusuchen, weil man uns nicht bezahlen ließ, regte sich einer der Kellner. Er hatte die Rechnung bereits vorbereitet und kassierte dennoch andere ab, obwohl sie deutlich später gekommen sind als wir.

Alles in allem würde ich das Meera Restaurant am Königsbau empfehlen. Das Essen schmeckt dort gut und das Fiasko bleibt...

The food at Meera is quite nice, albeit a bit expensive for what it is. Unfortunately, this is far too common in Konstanz and it feels like one often pays for the location of the restaurant rather than for the food itself.

Drinks are nice and there’s many different food options available. Service was a bit spotty last time I went. I was served the wrong cocktail, and there was no way to get this across in German or English to my waiter, who kept insisting that it was the correct cocktail. Think ordering a Mojito and getting a Strawberry cocktail instead. Overall, I would go back but there’s better options...
