I ordered a dragon roll and a Salmon menu, which came with a soup of my choice. I chose to go with the Miso soup, a classic and one of my favorites. I took a sip and found out that it is unexpectedly sweet. I've never had sweet miso soup before and couldn't take more than 2 sips. I had the waitress take it back since it tasted more like a dessert than the earthy miso soup that I've had all of the previous times that I've ordered it at other sushi places.
The dragon roll had some philadelphia cream cheese in it, which I didn't notice as being an ingredient on the menu (probably my fault). Typically dragon rolls have subtle tasting ingredients like avacado, salmon, and eel, with eel sauce. I found that the cream cheese overpowered the other flavors. I would recommend that the cream cheese be removed from the roll (chef's/owner's call though :). I would have ordered something else without cream cheese if I had noticed that it was an ingredient in this roll.
The Salmon menu came with one piece of what I imagine was marinated and grilled salmon belly, this piece was the highlight of the meal. If I could order a whole tray of whatever that piece was, I'd be very 😁. The rest of the Salmon menu set was decent, I would have liked the sushi rice to have a little more flavor (maybe it was light on the vinegar). If I go back, I would probably try something else next time. The wait for the food wasn't in hours like others have stated, I guess I was lucky 😀.
I finished everything except for the soup.
The "credit card" machine didn't work. Reading the other people's comments, I imagine that me trying to use a credit card instead of a Maestro card was the issue here. I ended up paying with cash.
I would give this place a second try, especially if I can get more of that marinated...
Read moreMy dining experience this evening was absolutely infuriating. First... we arrived around 1745 with a reservation at 1800. Was seated immediately and given menus and drink/food orders at the same time, as we were trying to hurry for follow on plans. The waitress brought us our drinks around 1810. Why it took almost 20 minutes for 3 peoples' water, wine, and soda to be brought to the table is beyond me. Then we noticed that the personnel making the sushi had began making to go orders for others who came in after us... further delaying our food. We began receiving our food in 'batches' which was extremely aggravating since all 3 of us at the table we're not eating at the same time. By the time the main sushi came out... it was 1851!!! The restaurant has roughly 7 tables... not a large influx of busy! What are they doing behind the counter that's taking nearly an hour for sushi/Nigri? Not to mention the Sushi was very very plain... nothing spectacular as some other reviews have mentioned. It only gets worse... now we're done eating and anxious to leave and by the time we were able to flag down the waitress (which is shocking in such a small establishment) it's almost 15mins later. She comes over and presents the bill which is wrong as the first waitress never delivered all the drinks correctly yet charged us for them. Upon presenting my card for payment she says "we only take maestro" ....what? This is Europe... no Visa? No MasterCard? Nope. Just a single card. Thank gosh my husband had cash... we paid and left... and I was never so happy to leave a restaurant after...
Read moreWe went to Ichi no Sushiya due to the good Google ratings. Unfortunately the expectations seem to have been a little too high. Although the service is nice, everything is very, very slow in this place. We waited forever to get our teas and then we waited another eternity to get our appetizers, followed by yet another wait for the sushi. I'm all for fresh food and therefore don't mind a little wait, but on the other hand I don't see why I would wait nearly one hour for sushi, which, let's face it, does not even require cooking time. Although food usually tastes better when you're famished, we were pretty disappointed from the sushi. The rice appeared dry and was barely seasoned with rice vinegar, the fish's quality could also have been better (tasteless tuna, firm salmon,...). All in all, a pretty neutral experience for the taste buds. I should positively notice that the miso soup was good (if you like strong miso) and I got extra ginger when I asked for it To the restaurant itself: I was disappointed by the extremely low quality chopsticks, the kind that you usually get from Chinese take-aways, and the cup for the soy sauce was basically too small to dip my sushi. These are small but very annoying things. In conclusion: I don't know when I'll ever make it to Wiesbaden again, but I would not go there a second time. If this is the "best sushi place in Wiesbaden" according to some reviews then I am really sorry. The quality and taste is merely average and definitely not...
