We stayed in this hotel for a couple of weeks while relocating to Wiesbaden. It wasn't a good stay.
First they gave us keys to a room that was already occupied... by a very large man made of pure muscle. He chased me down the hall in his towel after I walked in on him coming out of the shower.
The second room they gave us was unoccupied but sat directly above the bus stop on Luisenstrasse. It's noisy, especially on weekends late at night. The smell of diesel fumes permeated the room. After several sleepless nights we requested a new room.
The new room was quiet and secluded. A member of the housekeeping staff, perhaps familiar with the benefits of this rooms seclusion, came into the room while my wife was there alone. He cornered her and .... well he tried some things he shouldn't have. She pushed her way past him and ran to the front desk to report the incident.
They got rid of the sleazy housekeeping staff member and moved us to a different room... in the exact place in the building as the first room, just one floor up. The next day we found a different hotel and moved out.
Aside from the obvious problems with the staff and getting keys to an already occupied room, the hotel itself is just OK. The beds are old and saggy. The carpets are old and stained. The windows are old and don't keep out much noise. The restaurant is mediocre (as is the Rhein Main Grill referenced in other reviews here). It could use a good overall rehab. Either that or a name change to Holiday Inn.
The location is great. One block to the Wiesbaden pedestrian zone and market square. Restaurants and shopping in every direction. Close to the main train station. Parking is about 20...
Read moreA reasonably nice hotel from the outside, with a pleasant and modern reception area. The room however was aged and tired with various signs of age including a worn carpet, peeling paint, dirty marks and an empty bar fridge. The bed was rickety with the mattress sagging and deformed almost hollow from use and age (and very uncomfortable). The duvet appeared to be a 3/4 bed duvet on the double bed (the spare duvet in the cupboard was the same size again and appeared used). The three pillow cases were two sizes too big for the pillows and there were hairs on the pillow cases indicating previous use. The shower leaked badly all over the bathroom floor and the toilet lid lacked maintenance. When a knife, fork and spoon were requested (to eat some food gifted as a snack) the first Mercure room service telephone operator bluntly stated it would cost €7.5 euros as a rental fee and put the phone down. On calling again through to reception, the second operator explained there was a €5 room service charge and €2.5 rental fee even if the cutlery was collected downstairs at the restaurant by the guest staying at the hotel ( a sad instance of cost cutting /“Nickel and diming”). The meaning of the word “hospitality” appears to have been lost at the Mercure hotel Wiesbaden - especially by the telephone answering staff who have a primary duty to make guests welcome and comfortable. Perhaps gratitude should be expressed that they answered the...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel and joined the queue to check in at about 1415h. There was a couple in front of us and when it was their turn to check in another man stood at the end of the counter. We had travelled for 3 hours on a motorcycle through heavy rain and spray, stood in our motorcycle clothing carrying our safety helmets. When it was our turn to check in it was abour 1425h, we walked upto the reception desk and the man from the end of the counter ran and pushed in front of us and the reception person (an older man) allowed him to check in. We were not pleased. By this time a woman stood at the end of the counter. We then started our check in process when the woman spoke to the reception person, he stopped our check in and dealt with her then came back to us. On eventually finding our booking he stated that we could not check in until 1500 as that was our check in time. He took a dislike to us due to the way we were dressed, he was very dismissive and arrogant. We took a trolly and unpacked the motorcycle and returned to the reception desk at 1450h to join a long queue of people checking in. They did not have to waite until 1500h!! It is not what we expect, as you will see from our recent travells around the continent and staying in a large number of Accour hotels we have always been able to check in early and the staff have been perfectly pleasant and efficient even though we have not been dressed smartly due to our...
