My go-to in Wiesbaden for casual dining and social drinking. Food is reliably good, with their many varieties of schnitzel being some of my favorite in the city. Exceptionally responsive and friendly service. The crew there do a great job of making you feel welcome. It's definitely a local haunt for English speaking patrons. That may be good or bad, depending on the person. If you visit more than a couple times you'll start recognizing several faces.
The owner and staff do a great job of facilitating conversation between guests at the bar, and you end up getting to know people pretty well over time. If you're ever missing a plus one and want to go out, this is a great spot. You'll probably make a few acquaintances before the night is over.
Beer selection is similar to that of other joints in the area, but their whiskey selection is second to none in Wiesbaden. As a bourbon drinker it was about the only place in the city I could go for a proper drink.
It's a must visit for anyone hailing from the Anglosphere, and I highly recommend it for...
Read moreA hang-out for English-speaking visitors and expats alike (including the Americans from the barracks outside town). The walls are full of whiskey bottles and their cartons and they do have a few to drink, too! Not too many beers on tap but enough (and even some oddities, like banana beer, which I wouldn't recommend unless you have a strong constitution!). The food menu is good, with the schnitzel section particularly intriguing: choose how many schnitzels you want (1, 2 or 3 or chicken) -they are normal size, so 1-2 will do depending on your appetite and then whatever sauce you want from the sublime (Jäger - wild mushrooms) to the ridiculous (Hawaiian - you, you guessed it: with pineapple!) and everything in-between! It was a very good schnitzel, to be fair, with chips and side salad. Sit outside and watch the world go by, or at the bar, inside and have a chat (and say hi to the bar cat!). Service is good, but they catch them on a bad day -like with us all- and things might...
Read moreThis is my second visit. My first visit included lunch and it was quite good. This time I had already had dinner so it was just drinks. The first Old Fashion I ordered was great.Once finished, I waited 10-15min for the waitress to ask if I'd like another. Of course I would. Almost 20min later she came by the table again and I told her I still had not received my drink. It wasn't so busy and there were three people waiting tables. About 10min later she brought out something that was supposed to be an Old Fashion. It was obviously a different bartender. This one was so sweet and had the rim coated with what I hope was just a sweet syrup and not a dirty class. After two tastes I sent it back. The second waitress was more than helpful and apologized although I told her it wasn't her fault. The next one brought out was watered down with so much bitters that I couldn't taste the bourbon. I was...
