L'Osteria Wuppertal — Restaurant in Wuppertal

We stopped by for lunch on Saturday and sat outside. It was about 2pm so past the rush, but still busy enough. It took 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us and to take our order. We were beyond ready to order food but she would only take our drink orders and insisted on leaving a specials menu with us before she took our food order. Another 15 minutes, no drinks, have to flag her down to order food and one more drink from the specials menu. She is very nice but clearly not suited for the job. They seem to use that bizarre German way of only letting 1 or 2 people take orders and having tons of food and drink runners and table bussers who seem much more competent than the actual waiters but can't actually take orders. Madness and extremely inefficient. Special drink comes 15 minutes later but only after us noticing a runner wandering around with it having no clue which table it belongs to and flagging him down. Pizza and pasta finally come after another 20 minutes but the salad (which doesn't need to be cooked) does not. After 10 minutes of waiting and finally seeing an employee to flag down we ask about the salad and it comes a few minutes later. Food was delicious as usual but the service and lack of competence and coordination made for a poor experience overall. Some training and customer service skills sorely needed. They charge extra for the topings of half a pizza as it is a full pizza. They have a deal that costumer can chose to have a pizza with 2 different halves and than they do charge the most expensive one. All fair with that. We opted to half of “made your own pizza” with4 ingredients (9.95 + 6 eur of ingredients = 15.95€) and half of another one (16.25€), they charged us 16.25 plus the total of the extra ingredients, and didn’t acknowledge that those were part of the made your own pizza. They could even have explained it when we ordered that toppings were always charged separately, but they didn’t, neither it was written in any place of the menu. Extremely rude manager: “you eat you need to pay!” Without even trying to understand what we were trying to explain to him. Pizzas were good, and price good too, but the attitude was terrible. I can’t say the dishes in this restaurant truly Italian cuisine. In addition to this - bad service. People stand at the entrance, waiting for the attention of the hostess or waiter to check whether there is a table. At the same time, staff can ignore people for a long time when they see them at the entrance. This automatically discourages you from coming back here again. Friendliness is the first thing the client sees. And if it is absent, then many guests will prefer other places where they will be welcome.
