Omg where to begin.
The food was fine, a little disappointing. For example the fried courgette was quite greasy, whereas in other places we've had a lighter batter. The fava was also not as good as we've had elsewhere. House wine was quite nice.
Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry so didn't really mind, perhaps they are understaffed, but it was a quiet night so I dunno.
Our main issue was that we were sat outside under some kind of vine and these disgusting fruits kept calling on the table. Initially we didn't realise what they were (white mulberries, apparently) and they looked like disgusting bugs/gross maggots. We tried to move the table out from under the danger zone which made things better, but we felt on edge as they could fall in our food, and one almost landed in my wine.
To top it off the kitchen tripped their fuses 4 times plunging the entire restaurant into darkness, so it's a bit concerning there might be a fire safety issue. I'm just glad we weren't bombed by the fruit in the darkness.
We were in good spirits and the night will make for a good story, but I don't see us...
Read moreI have never experienced a lower quality of service in my lifetime of dining in Greece. The waiter continuously ignored our polite requests of drinks and of ordering (for reasons that I truly cannot understand, as we were always polite - perhaps because we are not Greeks?), while in the meantime serving instead other tables or just chatting, and eventually even openly mocked us. After 45 minutes waiting for the wine we had ordered upon arrival, which was never brought to us despite several kind reminders, we asked the waiter once again for it and told him that we were ready to order also the food, to which he responded that he could not take our order for at least another 20 minutes, because he was too busy, and if we were not fine with this we should leave. We were - and still are - absolutely speechless. NEVER AGAIN IN THIS PLACE! We of course left and eventually had a wonderful lunch at Vyrinis taverna. Athens offers hundreds of amazing restaurants and tavernas, clients feel at home or at least are treated with respect and kindness. Karavitis is definitely not...
Read moreTERRIBLE experience at this place, the waiter refused to come to our table and take our order despite asking very politely, and him serving other tables around us. When we approached another waiter, he asked the first why we hadn’t ordered, he said “leave them”, assuming we couldn’t understand Greek. After an hour we still hadn’t managed to even order food and the waiter laughed in our face when we asked him why. There are too many wonderful tavernas in Athens to choose from, don’t waste your time at this xenophobic place, which we left without having eaten and completely stunned at how we had been treated. We went in and complained about this person to the owner, I hope for the sake of his business he gets fired because this person should not be in the service industry. Truly one of the worst experiences in a...
