I visited Malconi's quite recently after a friend of mine suggested it. Although we did not have a reservation we were seated immediately from the host. Starting from here there are several pros and cons. Let me start with the pros first: 1) Very professional service 2) Very good wine list 3) Starters (scallops and sea beam tartare- if I remember correctly) along with ox ravioli were very tast Cons: 1) We were seated in a very narrow table, between two other ones that were very close to us. I could easily participate in the other table's conversation and vice versa. No privacy whatsoever 2) My main dish was truffle linguini with foie gras butter. A very flat dish where I could not taste the foie gras. There was a lot of truffle over it to justify the price (26€) but even the truffle's taste was not adding any intense to the flavour of the plate 3) There was a very long time between when our starters and main dishes arrived. More specifically, there were two girls next to us who were ordering while we were getting their starters. They got their main dished before we did. 4) The ambiece of the specific place that we were seated was not good. It was trying to give off an industrial vibe but in my opinion you cannot have an unplastered wall behind you with big pipes over your head while you're trying to eat 5) Rather overpriced but this is justified due to location (Kolonaki area is pretty exclusive) and ingredients used. I do not intend to visit again soon but if I did I would probably get a drink and/ or...
Read moreWalking into a restaurant that isn't at full capacity, one would expect the privilege of choosing a comfortable spot, especially when the dining experience promises to be exquisite. This was, unfortunately, a slight hiccup in our otherwise delightful evening. Despite several inviting tables, we found ourselves seated directly adjacent to the bustling street. The ambiance of Athens' evening, coupled with the less-than-comfortable garden chairs and the unavoidable city smog, intruded upon our comfort.
That said, it's impossible to overlook the culinary artistry that graced our table. We savored every bite of the delectable Chateaubriand, a dish that tantalized our taste buds and showcased the chef's mastery. It's an experience that rivals the offerings of renowned establishments in cities like Zurich, Florence, or Munich.
However, comfort is an integral part of dining, and the oversight regarding our seating arrangement was a disappointing detractor, warranting a deduction of two stars. Had this aspect been as thoughtfully catered to as our palates, the evening would have been flawless.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this establishment for anyone seeking a gastronomic adventure. Still, a word of advice: assert your need for a comfortable table. Should you find yourself in a setting that doesn't suit your comfort, insist politely on a change. Your overall experience is worth it, and it seems this minor adjustment is all that's needed...
Read moreCame here for dinner. On the food side, we were pleasantly impressed. The menu was spacious with italian delights. We got the focaccia to start which was absolutely delicious with a side of tomatoes that tasted so divine it could have been candy. The margherita pizza I ordered was stellar and just what i’d expect from an artisinally crafted sourdough pie. My family members ordered the sea bass, bolognese, and some rigatoni with butter sauce for the kids. The picturesque bolognese was “very good” and “very fresh.” The sea bass was “tasty” and “well prepared.” Atmospherically, the restaurant sported a young and hip vibe with colored lights and groovy music. However, it is to be noted that this music was at least ten decibels too loud. Service wise, we were met with average quality and friendly waitstaff. They did give us the check before the food came, which made things a little more confusing when we had to order for a fifth person who hadn’t yet arrived. Side note, the bathroom was confusing. Even by the european standard of a shared sink and seperate stalls, the gendered division wasn’t immediately visible. As well, the faucet produced a mere rivulet of water! A comically thin stream barely fruitful enough to be useful. Otherwise, we enjoyed our italian dinner. My fellow restaurant goer/family member was quoted saying: “Didn’t expect that kind of cuisine, exceeded expectations, something about...
