Came in for lunch after spotting the many vegetarian options on the menu, which are quite rare to find in this area. Pleasantly surprised by the hidden gem we stumbled upon.
The restaurant is spacious and much larger than the exterior would have you expect, boasting two stories, outdoor seating, and a series of wall-spanning windows on the lower and upper floors. The view is breathtaking and the atmosphere formal - this is a restaurant that plays to its strengths and takes itself seriously.
The Greek salad we ordered as a starter was generous, the fried haloumi presented with aplomb, and the fried feta drizzled in honey in particular was a fantastic taste combination we hadn't experienced before.
As mains we ordered chicken souvlaki, mushroom risotto, rabbit in mustard sauce, and vegetarian moussaka at the recommendation of the waiter. The mushroom risotto was pleasant, although the Parmesan was a little overpowered by the truffle oil. The chicken souvlaki was breast - not particularly tender - but seasoned well with a side of salad and chips; a good choice for a lighter, healthier option. The rabbit wasn't too good but wasn't terrible. The main flavour was the sauce, and it was difficult to pull apart... an interesting meal, but I'd skip it if ordering again. The vegetarian moussaka was the highlght of To Patriko Mas. It was light and airy, with a subtle, delicate tomato sauce. The serving was very generous and came in an earthenware dish. Some of the best moussaka we've ever had.
Service was relaxed and at times somewhat sluggish, and we had some difficulty gaining the attention of a waiter at times. Despite the initial difficulty, however, the food was brought out promptly and served piping hot.
This is not a budget eatery, but the price is well worth the experience. One of the highlights of our...
Read moreShockingly good food. We all know Greek food is supposed to be delicious. Unfortunately, in many of the touristy areas it is a bland, tasteless caricature of itself. Not at To Patriko!!! This place has elegance and subtly in their use of herbs and spices. The texture of the food is perfect (that may sound like a bizarre statement, but given some of the leather like cheese and gyro meat we have tasted, it is meaningful!). The service is subdued but precise and the view out to the Sea of Corinth- breathtaking. We had Lamb stew (my wife does not like lamb and all, and she ate almost half of my dish), venison pasta and Orzo with shrimp. We also had Prasinomelia salad, tzatziki and zucchini croquettes as starters Each of the appetizers were wonderful. The texture and taste of the tzatziki was the best we had our entire trip and salad was delicious. I am Sure my wife will be attempting to reproduce The fig reduction dressing on the salad for months to come. Each of the entrees were very different in flavor, presentation and texture we all shared our meals family style and walked away absolutely stuffed. I had a delicious local lager and my wife an aperol spritz, both ice cold and refreshing. Finally the price was about 60% - 70% less than what we would have spent at home on a similar sized meal though it would be hard to find this meal anywhere but Greece. This place is worth the drive from Athens, but combine it with an early morning stroll through the awe inspiring Delphi and you have made and experience/memory/adventure you will remember for...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious food. Some of the best I've had in Greece. The lamb was gorgeous as well as the deer pasta. I've lived in Greece as a foreigner for over a year and this was a real treat and I would go out of my way to come back and will recommend to anyone visiting the area. I read the negative reviews and I don't know how anyone came to their conclusion of being less than 5 stars. The prices were absolutely reasonable based on the quality and complexity of the dishes. This is not your average Taverna serving meat and french fries (No hate to them. I love a tiny taverna doing their thing.) Some folks that visit Greece get the idea of service mixed up with what they are used to. If you want something tell the staff. They don't hover and constantly check in. That's Greece. They let you enjoy your meal and expect that if you want or need something that you will ask. Trust me you are not bothering them. Sit back, relax here and enjoy the food and view . PS. Our soup was phenomenal and the hummus with honey was delicious. Totally different than any hummus I've ever had but unique...
