We are a hardworking couple in the HoReCa industry, and for the first time in 5 years we allowed ourselves a full week of vacation. We chose Greece because it’s close to our hometown – Veliko Tarnovo. For three days we tried different places that were recommended as “amazing,” and given the legend among Bulgarians that “everything in Greece is tastier, better, and of higher quality,” we expected to be blown away. But honestly, nothing felt “wow.”
As people who usually organize their travels around finding great coffee and food, this time we only wanted to rest. We didn’t research restaurants, cafés, or anything – just pure vacation. But after a few days of unsatisfying food (mostly fried dishes and grilled meat), we started feeling a bit disappointed that our long-awaited holiday in Kavala and the surroundings wasn’t giving us the joy we needed.
Then, during a casual walk through the old town, we stumbled upon atopo bistronomy. From the very first look, before it even opened, we felt we had to sit there – and we immediately reserved a table. That moment turned out to be the game-changer of our holiday.
The food? Absolutely exceptional. The service? Our favorite kind – effortless, polite, straightforward, without unnecessary showmanship or overfamiliar waiters trying too hard. The atmosphere? Brilliant – the open kitchen, the lighting, the music, the artwork, the ventilation, the flowers… every detail is carefully thought out and executed with taste.
We are truly inspired! This place not only saved our vacation, it made it unforgettable. We are already planning future trips back here, just so we can enjoy this unique restaurant again.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for...
Read moreI came here with my wife on the recommendation of the owner of our apartment in Kavala old town
It was so good that we came the next night too.
This is a proper restaurant with a very talented and dedicated chef and his team behind him equally focused and proud of what they do.
The menu is very interesting with a strong Italian influence + fusion Greek. But more important than interesting is that all the food we had (including the in-house baked bread) was absolutely delicious.
And the two very sweet waitresses were delightful; friendly and efficient with great English (so sorry we don't speak Greek apart from kalimera, epharisto etc)
The vibe in this place is super cool.
We preferred on both times we ate here to sit inside the gorgeous high-ceilinged room rather than outside on the terrace firstly because of air conditioning and secondly because NO cats inside.
My wife loved the food, ambience and service but felt that the music was too loud and she couldn't hear me speak. But I have nothing interesting to say...but it was a bit too loud for us oldies in our 60s, yes.
This is a wonderful restaurant with very reasonable prices and plentiful portions compared to what we are used to in rip-off Britain. (sorry to say that about my beautiful country, but it's the truth)
I do hope we get to come back here some...
Read moreGreat 'discovery'. Our first visit and Atopo lived up to the reviews and recommendations. The restaurant sits in a very nice spot overlooked by the viaduct. First impressions were of a stylish restaurant with efficient and friendly staff. The menu strays from the usual tourist dishes and offers a very nice contemporary twist to every dish. The dishes were all beautifully presented and each of us commented on the deapth and subtly of the flavours. It was hard to pick a standout dish, but each of the Artichoke, risotto and beef cheeks dishes were fantastic. As was the basque cheesecake we shared for dessert. My only, and very slight quibble, was that I would have liked a little more of the chorizo heat to have permeated the squid dish. Also, getting a table proved a little frustrating, although we did recieve a call after leaving a few voicemail. But now our favourite place to eat in the region, and the €132 bill for 4 represented very good value given we enjoyed a good bottle of wine and around 9 x dishes. Glad we finally found Atopo and look forward to revisiting when we...
