We visited Kavala for a week at the beginning of September and we found accommodation in the old town, due to extremely low availability to the local hotels. Luckily for us this was a great decision because we had the chance to dine out very day and experience the amazing authentic greek food. First evening we ate at 'the best rated restaurant in town' which wasn't the best in our opinion. In the second evening instead we decided to have dinner at this amazing place which was buzzing all the time we went by. It was 2 min away from where we stayed and decided to give it a try. Needless to say that every single night we spent in Kavala we had dinner at "Mermaids And Guys", being seduced from the first bite by the tasty dishes and amazing flavours. The service was impeccable every time. Yannis is a truly asset to this place, he helped us choose the best dishes from the menu and we had never regret it. The food was always fresh and even though some of the recipes had abundance of olive oil or fat (which Is totally normal and traditional) we never felt sick, like it happened in some other cases. The prices are extremely reasonable for the food quality this restaurant is providing and you get to try the very authentic taste of Greece. The portions are just huge, most of the times me and my partner were sharing the plates, but I tend to say that this is a ‘greek thing’ since almost everywhere we ate we received very generous sized food. All the fish and sea food dishes we tried were over the top and the salads the best we ever had. I don’t have enough praise words to describe how impressed we were with this place, every afternoon we were trying to skip lunch just to have the opportunity to try something new from their menu. I recommend this place with all my heart; it had a very big impact over our holiday making it the best we had so far. You won’t be disappointed. My suggestions to try are: Tsipura (a traditional fish, translated as gilt-head fish), the grilled octopus, the veggie salad with dressing, the stuffed mushrooms, the grilled mushrooms.
