Taverna Vosporos — Restaurant in Kavala Municipality

We had family dinner of 5 people. The place was packed but we were seated fast and gave our order. At the same time our food started arriving MASSIVE COCKROACHES started crawling around us! Not just between our feet but ON us, on the tables and chairs! One of them crawled on me! We killed two of them, a cat ate another one, but countless other were all over the place. The waiters know about the problem, blame the Municipality for not spraying the sewers... Amazing! Quite a few customers were upset but the place was still fully booked. We left really quickly after eating very fast. We still paid €100 for our dinner. Those streets are NOT appropriate to host food outlets! Cockroaches crawling on you while you eat is NOT normal and acceptable! It's a healthy issue and those businesses should not be aloud to operate. Never again going anywhere close to those streets for food... Very disappointed...

I had a fantastic welcome! I asked for some meze and as I’m travelling alone the owner made me a dish with 6-7 different meze, which were all delicious (better to let the place choose what you get): I had fava with was freshly made and very well seasoned, there were zucchini balls which were also freshly made, crispy outside and with a nice creamy texture inside, great taste with fresh herbs. There were 2 types of cured fish as well as smoked mussels, with fantastic taste and a few things more. It’s usually difficult to get more than the usual 3 meze without ordering another tsipouro but if you’re alone it gets difficult. In the past month I was travelling in Greece I usually encountered surprised or frowning stares when I wanted to order a few more meze but without another tsipouro. I enjoyed this place very much and I didn’t expect such a warm welcome in a rather touristy area....

This place, which we went to in April 2024, is a pleasant tavern preferred by locals and also by tourists visiting the city of Kavala. The tavern, which serves both fish and meat dishes and plays traditional Greek music on certain days of the week, has a wide food menu. We went to the tavern on one of the evenings where live music was played. We ordered Greek salad, green salad, salted cold fish plate, fried zucchini, fisherman's plate consisting of various fresh fish of the day and we liked them all very much. Especially the salted cold fish plate was excellent. Music performance and service quality were also at the highest level.
